The apartment that Sadie and Nancy lived in with their father was spacious, to say the least. With a large living area and kitchen, and an upstairs with three bedrooms, it was more than enough space for Johnathon Kempf and his four girls.

The first one to greet the Kempf girls when they entered was Sadie's ten-year-old calico named Moxxie, who immediately ran to Sadie's side to be picked up. Sadie obliged, happily swapping out her skateboard for her furry companion.

"Hey, don't leave your skateboard in the middle of the floor again," Nancy instructed. Sadie cuddled the cat for a moment before setting her down and returning her skateboard and backpack to her and Nancy's room.

"Don't forget to come back with your homework!" Nancy called to her younger sister. Sadie nodded and made a small noise to acknowledge her before closing the bedroom door and plopping down on her bed. Sadie and Nancy shared a bedroom, and Nancy's side of the room had only a Lumineers tapestry hanging above her bed and some pictures she took with her friends, while Sadie's side of the room had her old skateboard decks hanging on the walls and a vintage Nightmare On Elm Street poster. The girls also had a few salt lamps on their dresser, along with fairy lights strewn along their window. Sadie and Nancy didn't agree on how to decorate their room, but they could both agree that there needed to be a picture of their family taped to the mirror, and this picture is what Sadie looked at while she changed into her sweatpants and The Shining hoodie.

Sadie came meandering back downstairs with her backpack slung over her shoulder, the smell of fresh popcorn hitting her nose. She sat down at the table next to Eden and pulled her hoodie over her eyes and put her head on the table. Eden laughed loudly at the sound, making Nancy and Harlow look back at them.

"Hey, homework then sleep, ding dong," Nancy reminded. Sadie put her thumb up, still with her head on the table. Harlow rolled her eyes at her older sister, pulling the popcorn out of the microwave and pouring it into the bowl.

"Get her, Eden," Nancy instructed. Eden laughed and began tickling Sadie's sides, causing her to yelp in shock. Her head popped up and she started trying to defend herself, laughing loudly and trying to see through her tears.

"Stop! I'm up!" Sadie yelled through her laughter.

"Okay, that's enough, guard dog," Nancy told Eden. Eden stopped and allowed Sadie to catch her breath. For the next hour and a half, the four sisters worked on homework together, sharing inside jokes and stories from school.

"Did you call Mr. Xanatos yet, Nancy?" Eden asked enthusiastically. Nancy's eyes widened and she immediately pulled out her phone, walking to the next room as she dialed his number.

Sadie's own phone began ringing, and when she picked up she saw it was her father. She rolled her eyes and answered, walking out to the balcony.

"Hey, Dad," she said, leaning against the railing and looking at the street below her.

"Hey, honey. Did you get the girls okay?" He asked.

"Yeah, but you're gonna have to talk to Nancy at some point. She's pretty pissed about having to go to Mom's," she warned. Sadie heard her father sigh and pause a moment.

"So, I have to stay late tonight. I should be back around ten, but I don't want the girls up that late. Can you and Nancy make sure that they're in bed before then?" He asked hopefully. Sadie groaned and watched the sunset over the Eyrie Building in the distance.

"Yeah, that's fine. I'll talk to you later," Sadie answered pointedly. Before her father could reply, she hung up on him and swore at the sky, going back inside to see Eden watching a Disney movie. Harlow was nowhere to be seen, and Sadie assumed she was in her room moping.
