Third Person POV
The Embassy was dead silent besides the antique clock that was ticking away on the old-fashioned drawer. Catherine motioned for Erica to sit on the decorated sofa, then doing so herself. She poured some tea from a flask into two delicately-crafted white cups. Erica took a sip of the drink and started.
"Okay, this is what I believe happened. SPYDER planted some fake chatter in the lines that they knew the CIA were tapping, which resulted in granddad activating Ben. When SPYDER found out, they send a SPYDER agent to slip a small trace of bomb residue or some meat into Ben's jacket, which made the bomb dogs go crazy, but the residue wasn't enough to trigger the bomb detector. This gave SPYDER a chance to smuggle and detonate the actual bomb in Ben's jacket on the next day since the secret service wouldn't be suspicious anymore." Erica explained.
"And this is how Ben got framed by SPYDER?" Catherine questioned.
"According to my intel." She replied curtly.
Catherine raised her eyebrows. "You've got to hand it to SPYDER, they've really planned this out well."
"And that's what the the problem is. Seeing how SPYDER works, this bombing might just be another distraction."
Catherine took in the information while gracefully sipping the tea. "So you're here to ask me for some help?"
Erica nodded. "On the phone call with Ben yesterday, I pretended to be angry at him for betraying the CIA, but I also hinted to meet me in the Smithsonian. The hint was easy enough for him to realize and therefore the same for the others. That means it is quite certain that something would go wrong and I need some backup."
"Sure thing sweetie, I'll be at the temporary storage area. If anything goes downhill, just meet me there." Catherine then smirked. "Can I ask you a question that I've been wanting to ask for some time?"
Erica looked at her mom curiously, "Okay?"
Catherine's smirk morphed into a wicked grin, making Erica slightly regret her decision.
"Do you like Ben?" Catherine interrogated.
Erica stiffened. "No."
"Are you sure? I know you do." Catherine teased.
"Look, I don't like Ben and that's final." She said uneasily.
"Then why are you so worried about him all the time?"
Erica paused, "What do you mean?"
"You don't normally care for other classmates, you just let them survive on their own. On the other hand, when Ben's in trouble, you always help him."
"Ben is not capable of surviving on his own." Erica replied curtly, "If I don't help him, he would get killed."
Catherine laughed. "You're getting overprotective. Ben survived yesterday on his own after your crane knocked him into the Potomac River! You like him, don't you?"
"I do not!" Erica replied a little too quickly.
"But you kissed him on your mission in Vail." Catherine countered.
Erica froze, stunned, "How did you know?"
"I'm a spy, it's my job to know things."
Erica just stared at her blankly, lost at words.
Catherine took advantage of this and continued, "It's fine, darling, I think Ben is perfect for you!"
Erica turned as red as a tomato. "Mom! You know I won't let anything affect my spy career, let alone another scrawny boy."
"Ben's not so bad. He actually understands and cares about you, unlike the other boys."
Erica turned away and ignored the comment. "This mission is crucial to the sake of the entire country, and I'm definitely not going to fail it." She replied coldly.
"Fine, fine, I'll help you, but you have to admit your feelings for Ben, Erica. He's going to make a fantastic son-in-law." Catherine answered.
"I said I don't like him." Erica protested weakly.
Catherine giggled. "Sure you don't."
