For a few minutes, I was silent. He was visibly confused but just waited for me to regain my composure. I looked at him, one eyebrow raised and the other not. It's not possible, right? This is all a coincidence? There are probably lots of small islands you can see from your plane that also just happen to send your soulmate necklace into a fit of flame and electricity and-
"Is everything okay?" He looked concerned, "You look like you had a stroke."
I let out a singular nervous laugh, "I think I might have."
I didn't wanna tell him that he might be the reason my necklace is broken; that would seem insane. I am not clingy, and I am not irrational, but I only saw HE IS YOUR SOULMATE in big flashy neon lights when I looked at him.
I closed my eyes and shook my head, 'Do you wanna go swimming?"
He cocked his head in utter confusion, but his lips curled into a smile, "Sure. Right here? Right now?"
"Yeah, why not?"
I threw him the blanket and climbed out of the boat. The air was still cold, and the water was most likely undoubtedly freezing but still, I used adventure to distract myself. I pulled my sweater over me and tossed it on the deck. I felt exposed but also, in the light of the moon on this night, I felt free.
"Coming?"
I laughed before diving straight in. The water was deep but also shallowed out quickly, giving a small beach-like area room to thrive.
I came up quickly and he was standing at the edge of the dock looking down at me, "You know, these are the only pants I brought to land."
I struggled to stay afloat as the freezing water paralyzed my body, "Then lose em'!"
Who AM I?
He shrugged his shoulders, "Suit yourself," And removed his linen pants.
I was daring but I wasn't too daring; I knew he'd have boxers on, so it wasn't a huge deal. He jumped in and I closed my eyes to avoid any splashing.
"Exhilarating, isn't it?"
"I think freezing is a more appropriate term," He laughed and swam towards the shallower part of the water.
I followed him and splashed him, inciting an awful game of torturous splishing and splashing.
"That's what we're doing?"
He splashed back at me vigorously and with more water and force. I let out loud laughs and tried to swim away but he quickly wrapped his arm around my waist and reeled me in. He turned me around to face him and I was trying to catch my breath as he got really close to my face as if he was going to kiss me. His skin was cold, but this moment was warm, and I enjoyed every second of it. I felt his hands move and his left hand cupped my cheek which made me sick with anxiety and I was sure he could hear my heart beating out of my chest. I wanted to kiss him but it just didn't feel right so I looked down at the sea to let him know it wasn't happening.
I pulled out of our kiss and laughed, "Sorry, I don't-"
He removed his arms from my body causing my brain to whimper, "No I'm sorry... I shouldn't be..." He ran his fingers through his hair, "What are you doing tomorrow?"
I let out a huge toothy grin, "Depends, what did you have in mind?"
He smiled back at me, "I wanna take you to dinner. Be ready at eight."
He headed back towards the dock and hoisted himself up onto it; he looked back at me and motioned me to swim to the dock. He reached his hand down and helped me out of the water.
"Will you meet me, here, tomorrow?" He stood in front of me and I watched water droplets roll off his arms, "I'd like to get to know you."
I parted my purple lips to mutter, "I'll be here."
He reached in and grabbed the blanket again, handing it to me, "I'll see you tomorrow then."
I wrapped myself in the blanket and headed back towards my house. I looked back at him after stepping off the dock and waved at him. My face lit up with pure glee and I couldn't stop smiling. I was going on a date, with a stranger who I swam with, in Greece! When in Greece I suppose.
