Father?

He didin't know what happened, he saw a shadow cast around him, and the world went dark.

He woke up... but he couldn't see, everything was dark. He tried to move but he felt restrained around his waist. For a short period he thought he was dead, but he completely forgot about it when he felt his fur brush against with something next to him. The dog stood quiet for a while, trying to figure out the situation when the figure next to him spoke. "They will use us next". The dog shakily asked "Wh-where will they use us".
The figure spoke with a strong tone. "They need sacrifices to keep themselves protected from the the fifth king". The tone shook the dog up as he felt the seriousness coming from it, he had to know more about it."The fifth king? Whats that?". "It has no real appearance, its a mass of living fears, it appears differently according to the person's fears" That reminded the dog of the horrific sight he witnessed in the room he blacked out in. "I saw it before they took me here, it fed on darkness". The figure spoke with a surprised tone. "Huh? You are really lucky, kid".
"How come" the dog replied. "No one lives to tell the tail after they see the fifth king". The dog rose a suspicion about the figure, just how did he know so much. "Hey, how do you know all of this?", the room went silent, and then the figure spoke. "I was a part of this cult, but they caught on to me, i let too many of their victims run away. I tried destroying this cult from the inside, but i got caught from the endless malice that was lurking around every corner. Now i will die a life filled with regrets, nothing i could do was significant in the face of this "dark somnium"." Despair filled the air as the confessions of helplessness sounded the room."We can still escape" the dog said. "These blindfolds seem badly wrapped, maybe if we can take them off we will be able to figure a way out." The figure sighed and said sardonically "Yeah, might as well try, we've got nothing to lose after all."

The dog thought of an idea to remove the blindfolds "Since our limbs are tied we can use our teeth to take them off each other". "Good idea" said the figure, so they both bit on their blindfolds and took them off at once. What they saw was shocking to both of them.

They were both speechless. The unknown figure was revealed to be the dog's father, which he has only heard about. The dog needed to make sure so he said "dad?". The person standing in front of him didn't give off any response, he just stood there shaken. The dog repeated with a louder tone "Dad?", the person in front of him spoke with rage in his voice. "How could they, they promised! These maniacs!" The dog was shaken and quickly realised that, that was indeed his father. His eyes started filling with tears, as he asked "dad, where have you been?". The dog's father with impatience replied "we need to get you out of here quickly!". The dog had so many unanswered questions, but he couldn't get any replies. The dog's father spotted broken glass pieces on the ground and hurriedly picked them up to start cutting the rope. The dog got frustrated and yelled at his dad. "Are you even listening! Is this what you left me alone, is this where you were? All these years i thought you were dead, i was all alone and you never came to see me once? You are truly heartless, father". The dog's father didn't stop cutting, but tears started rolling down his face, after a bit of cutting he got the ropes off, and looked at the dog. "They promised me that they wouldn't involve you if i stayed, i didn't think these bastards would break their promise, but I'm a fool for for trusting them in the first place. I know that no amount of apologising would be enough to replace the loneliness and hardship you have been through, but this was the only way.". The dog looked at him with tearful eyes and embraced him into his arms "I'm sorry dad, i always thought that you left me, because mom died during birth, i thought that it was my fault, i'm sorry". The dog's father tightened his grip around him " Don't worry ill never leave you again, now lets get out of here before they catch us." Just after those words left his mouth he heard the commotion descending the stairs, they were too late to run away.
