As soon as I stepped across the threshold of my room, I was yanked by my sister towards the bed.
' Hey, hey, what's wrong with you sis?!'
' We njoo hapa, nina umbeya wa kukupa' she told me excitedly.
' Nini tena, we una jipya la kunipa?' I questioned her. To be honest, my sister was a big gossip. She was known just for that: we called her the daily newspaper. Nothing in our village that happened would not be under her radar, she just had to know what was going on.
' don't be such a bore Aeshe, I have news,..'
I immediately cut her' you always have something, now what have you done this time?'
' not me girl, it's someone else, anyways, have you heard anything about zainab's bridegroom? '' whatchu saying right now?' I asked. ' my dear little sister hear this, the bridegroom was forced to marry Zainab and he doesn't like her one bit'
' What?!' I exclaimed, ' you telling me now!'
' whoa! calm down little sis, I didn't know about this till today'
' really?, you know what I don't believe you' I told her, ' I bet you knew about this and you kept quiet. Tomorrow is her wedding now what are we going to do!'
' listen, I am not finished yet, apparently the groom's father and our Dad are super good friends, this marriage alliance was made a long time ago! Whether you like it or not, you just have to suck it up.' She said.
I looked at her for awhile, I could see she was distressed knowing about our sister's plight.
