I reached my driveway in a matter of minutes. I looked up at my house. Tucked away in the woods nearly unseen from the rest of the neighborhood. It was amazing to be able to swim, to play with your dogs, to play in and around your barn with your chickens by your side doing any crazy thing you wanted but yet be unseen by anyone who dare walk by. I continued down my driveway towards the door. I stopped at the steps that led to the door. A note was taped to step in front of me. I reached down and picked it up. It was written in blue ink, obviously my dads handwriting to. It read Dear Jessie I have gone to the store to get dinner I should be back in about an hour. Go feed the chickens and to make sure you've done it the keys are in the feeder bag.
I yanked the note off the steps with one hand and crumpled it up. I threw it on the ground and started towards the barn. The cold wind nipped at my face as I looked up. My gaze drifted to the trees surrounding me. It was beautiful. All the reds, yellows, and oranges mixing but yet none seem to have fallen. The sun just barely peeking over the clouds in the distance. It was almost perfect. I looked down at the large snake like creature in my hand. It was curled up and seemed as it was lightly shivering. It was almost cute. But ugly at the same time. I reached the giant barn doors. I put one hand in between the crack in the two doors and slowly pushed the heavy red doors open. It was just a small opening, but big enough for me to get through. I slid through the doors and flicked the lights on. I had just gotten into sight of the chickens when the snake in my hand darted off me with unbelievable speed. Before I could react it was out of sight. I sighed and thought to myself there goes my only friend. Whatever what else should I have thought. My own family can't even stand me. I walked straight towards the chickens and their food bin. I had just reached the bin when all the chickens came to me. One in particular reached me first. A golden colored one with a black spot over its left eye. Her name was kyra, she was my favorite. I scooped her up in my right arm and carried her over to the food bag. I reached in and grabbed the keys. I quickly stuffed them in my pocket and grabbed the seed scooper. I scooped up a big pile of seeds and headed towards the food bin. I dumped the seeds in the metal bin and set kyra down. She scurried up to the bin just as all the other chickens did and started to eat her meal. I threw the food scooper at the wall and walked out the doors. I closed the doors behind me as a large gust of wind blew. It felt like razor blades slicing my skin. I felt something cold touch my nose. Very cold. It was.....a snow flake. "Its snowing wait no that can't be right. Its too light to be snowing it must be flurries!" I said to myself. I walked towards my houses back door and twisted the knob. It opened. I threw the cold metal keys down on the counter and slammed the door behind. So much for keys. I thought to myself. I walked to the front door and unlocked it. Its so cold. I thought to myself. I walked to my left and went up the stairs. I went to the left when I got to the top of the stairs. I walked down the cold corridor for a few seconds and went up another set of stairs to the attic. When I reached the top of the stairs I opened my doors. It was the biggest room in the house. The only thing I had that I could call mine. The only place I actually like to be. I walked in and closed the door behind me. I walked to the thermostat and turned it up to 80°F. Just as I closed the panel a car pulled up. I looked out my window wondering who it could be. Its Dad....wait no it couldn't be him...its...its...my brothers.
