A thick blanket of darkness coated the night sky; stars luminosly casting their light over the town. An intense hush had fallen over the neighborhoods, everyone seemed to be asleep.

A woman no older than twenty five dashed across the vacant streets desperate to get to her destination. In her arms was a thick bundle, clothed in a soft pink blanket.

As her journey came to an end and her stop came into view, the woman looked down into her arms at what lay in the blanket.

A pair of angelic coffee colored eyes stared back at her. The woman couldn't help but form a soft, sad smile upon her lips as she slowed to a stop.

She sighed slightly as she made her way up the old cement steps. When she neared the door, she crouched down and lay the baby on the doormat, careful to make sure it was not in pain.

The woman pulled out a crumpled paper out of her tattered jeans and tucked it inside of the blanket with her baby. Tears filled her eyes as she rose her shaking hand to her lips and then back down to her baby's cheek.

Looking at her now, she didn't want to go.

But she knew she had to.

The woman scrambled up slightly and rang the building's doorbell several times before making a run for it. She stumbled and tripped over the steps and got scraped and bruises along the way but she still kept running until she got to the woods.

Away and hidden from the building she heard the shrill wail of her baby's cries and she too couldn't help but choke back a sob.

"Goodbye," She whispered with finality.

She paused before turning on her heel and making her way deeper in the woods.

It was for the best.

Goodbye.
