The leaves hushed as a delicate breeze danced past them. Dead leaves rustled as an arrogated she-cat stomped her way through the forest. She came to a sudden stop.
"I can't stand this heat!" Brightheart clawed at the ground, churning it. "Where's Cloudtail?" She hoped he wouldn't be all over Daisy during this time, especially when his mate needs the attention. But that was unlikely. All he ever does is devote his time to hang around with her. And the stupid tom doesn't even notice me! But, complaining about it wouldn't help this wretched heat. Maybe she should encourage him to mate with her. But to do that she'll need to look for him. She padded back into camp, eager to find him. After searching for ages, she couldn't find him. And what a coincidence! Daisy wasn't here too. She was begging to StarClan that he didn't go off with her to do the unnamed! But as that thought hurtled through her mind, Cloudtail came trotting in, glowing. A few moments later, Daisy cautiously padded into camp after him. They parted with a glance. Brightheart lashed her tail once and floundered at him. "Where have you been?" She hissed. He looked surprised. He hesitated, then replied, "I went hunting with Daisy. I caught a vole..." Brightheart glanced at the measly little scrap. "Oh, so all that time you found that one little vole? With two cats? You must be joking!" Cloudtail just looked down at his paws. He didn't say anything. Brightheart continued, but more calmer. "You know it's mating season. I needed you, as a mate, to help me with this heat. But you were too busy with Daisy, as always!" Cloudtail opened his mouth, then closed it. Then opened it to say "There are other she-cats that could've helped you." That made Brightheart snap. "How dare you? I shouldn't need other she-cats to help me with heat! You should be there to help me! But you're not! You're always with that mouse-hearted kittypet!" Cloudtail's fur was on end and his ears were flattened.
"Why do you have to be so jealous!? She is just a friend!" As he said that, guilt clouded his gaze for a heartbeat. Brightheart hissed, and dashed out of camp, unaware of where she was running. Her anger turned into sadness. Why would he do this? If he didn't love me anymore, he should just say it, and spare all this pain!Brightheart spent the rest of the day letting her anger out on dead branches, but felt little satisfaction as they cracked in her clenched jaws. She doesn't want to return to camp, with that mange-pelt and kittypet! "Whatever they do, it's not my concern! They don't deserve my worry!" But she couldn't help thinking about Cloudtail and how he used to treat her before Daisy seemed to exist. It was Daisy who ruined everything. What did Cloudtail see in that mouse-heart anyway? Is it because she's more prettier and hasn't got all these nasty scars? She hissed and continued raking the bark along the sides of trees and shattering twigs.
Brightheart found herself in a beautiful field with the warm sun rays against delicate flowers, making them glow. She leaped and dashed through the grass blades, feeling sheer joy. She was at peace. Then suddenly she thudded into a cat with a huge force. She scrambled to her paws. "I'm sorry-" then she stopped. She looked as if she saw a ghost... except she did. "SWIFTPAW!?"
