Phoenix POV:
"Damn you demon!" Henry shouted at the shadowy figure. The individual jumped into the classroom laughing as they went.
"Oh Henry, you know that I'm anything but a demon." it began walking towards us, ignoring the others in the room.
"I swear, don't come any closer or I will call the soldiers!" his voice was panicked and wavering. He grabbed the cord phone attached to the wall.
"No you won't." she replied. Henry stopped.
"What the hell do you mean I won't!?" he screamed in frustration.
"Well, I meant you can't. Phone's broken." she sat on top of an empty desk. Henry immediately turned and furiously began to punch in numbers but even I could hear the bleak sound of silence.
"What did you do?! I swear I'll kill you demon!" Henry dropped the phone and made a beeline for the figure.
"Didn't I just ask to not be called a demon? Jeez, you govies are so rude sometimes." she hopped off the table and stood in front of the menacing government officer.
"Always hiding behind that stupid cloak huh? Why don't you show yourself to the world. Show these people who you really are Cybele." he gestured at the surrounding classroom. I felt frozen in the chair. These two knew each other from somewhere. Obviously they had a bad history.
"I hide for a reason Henry. You don't need to know why I do but I have a reason." she quietly said, her bravado gone.
"Huh, is the little hero scared? Scared of what they would think of you?" Henry guffawed. He reached inside his long white trench coat (with the govie seal sewn on) and I could make out the handle of a pistol. "I'm gonna kill you now little hero and you and your demonic ways will die." he lifted the gun so it was carefully aimed at The girl's head.
"Take off the hood so you die with some dignity stupid girl." he gestured with the gun. The entire class was silent. It was a deadly silent. This man was going to kill someone in this classroom and we could only watch.
The hooded figure lifted a hand and gingerly pulled the cowl back revealing her face. The first thing you noticed would be her hair. Red with highlights of gold tied back in a ponytail that curled ever so lightly at the ends. Her eyes were two different colors, one gray the other gold. Her skin fair and when she pulled down the fabric covering her mouth, a smile was starting to form. Why was she smiling? She had a gun aimed at her head. Death was waiting to claim her.
The nurses began to empty the classroom until only the girl, Henry, and I were left.
"You won't kill me. There are more important people who want to kill me themselves." she took a step forward, bringing herself ever closer to the gun. From where I was sitting I could see Henry's hand trembling. "C'mon Henry, shoot." she said quietly.
His face was a smorgasbord of emotions. I could easily see the need to kill the person in front of him but also his discipline being strained. What had she done to make him so murderous?
"Fine. I will." he used both his hands, steadied the gun, and time seemed to slow down he began to pull the trigger. She was going to die. I couldn't look away, as much as I would've hated to see her blood spilled. Suddenly, there was a flash of movement I couldn't keep up with. Then a gunshot. I squeezed my eyes shut but only heard silence after that.
I slowly peeled my eyes open and nearly jumped when I realized what had happened. The girl had grabbed Henry's arm and forced the gun to point at the ground, pulling him closer, with a knife to his neck. Before he could react, she wrung the gun out of his hand and twisted his arm in an uncomfortable position behind his back. She flipped the pistol in her hand, shoved Henry to the ground, and swung the pistol butt into his head. His body slumped forward and Henry made a quiet groan. The gun clattered to the tile of the floor and she re-sheathed her knife. It had all happened in such a rapid succession. Mere seconds. She turned towards me, her eyes burning into mine suddenly serious. I scrambled up from my chair and asked,
"Who are you?"
She gave me a small smile. "Someone like you."
" Well, do you have a name? I'm Aiden." I hesitantly walked towards her.
"In reality, you can call me anything you want, just don't call me a demon because then that happens." she gestured towards Henry's unconscious form. "but I do have a name."
"Um, what is it?" I stopped in front of her.
"I'm Cybele."
