People used to say that the Grim Reaper was a hoax to scare little children. At least... Until it was proven not a hoax. Jinx Saros. Everyone in the military knew the name. He was the star taken in by a recruiter who found him looking lost on the streets with dog tags stating his name and where he was from.
SRC. Sniper Reform Center. Less of a reform and more of a raising. Jinx was one of the kids who's parents died mysteriously and he was found by this organization before the human world got to him. They raise kids normally until they hit six years old, then they start the training. These kids are trained from the moment they turn six until they're seventeen to be the best of the best. The top 0.5% of the nations snipers. The top 0.5% in accuracy, speed, smarts, hearing, smelling, tasting, immunity, sight, and wielding in the nation.
To sum that up; Jinx can hear, smell, fight, taste poison, react faster than the fastest soldier, keep up with a car, smarter than Einstein, never gets sick, vision of an eagle, and NEVER misses his target.
The kids that don't pass the tests... They're found 'mysteriously' dead in a river somewhere. The hardest test is the last one. Each kid who makes it that far either shoots themselves dead, or they kill their first target. This target is tied to a chair with a bag over their head and is only revealed when they are shot dead. This person is the one person that the kids have relied on their entire lives, their caretaker, basically their adoptive mother or father. The people that act as these caretakers are either raised to do this or they volunteer after retiring, all knowing the quick ending they'll get.
Jinx... Jinx was never normal. He was fairly feminine for a guy and always had this happy go lucky attitude with his emotions either locked away completely or on display with no control. His original name was going to be Nathan, but everyone called him Jinx due to his luck of jinxing things, due to this they named him Jinx. PT today? He'd say; "Oh, it's probably going to be hard!" Then it'd be easy that day. He did this three times in a row. Then said the opposite and the opposite happened. This went on with just about everything he did. The bad side was it led to him having a very negative mind set when it came to shooting. This lead to him having a praise kink.
Some of the training he had to go through included a very real and very deadly blindfolded knife fight. To him it was exciting and he got hyped up every time they did one, to everyone else it was terrifying to see how well he could fight without his eyes. They'd blindfold him for two week periods to make his other senses sharper and his balance better. They'd put silencing earbuds or headphones on him so he'd learn how to use his other senses without relying on hearing, he learned sign language and to read lips. They put him in a room that had no smells other than himself for days until his nose was sensitive enough he could name everyone in the room by smell alone. They'd introduce his body to small amounts of poison at a time until he became immune to them even at more than killing doses, this allowed him to name every poison by smell and taste. It also made his immune system strong enough that when he got sick, it was either barely noticeable, or he'd be knocked out by it for a week and unable to sit up without help. Hence he rarely gets sick.
All of this lead to him killing his caretaker and going ice cold for a year. His best friend, Addax Quin got the worst of his eleven month attitude. Blunt remarks, sassy comments, mental breakdowns, actual child like tantrums that caused him to lock Jinx in the basement of the institute for god knows how long. After that, Jinx's bubbly self started to come back. More smiles, more contagious laughter, more insane high note karaoke, but one thing was different. Jinx was more careful, more concealing. He started taking more care of others than himself and took the blame if someone got in trouble.
Everyone was confused when he'd be tied to a post in the middle of a courtyard getting his back whipped for supposedly stealing the food in the kitchen, which is insane seeing how Jinx always followed the rules. He might be the best, but he wasn't stupid enough to let that get to his head. Everyone knew he was too submissive and easily intimidated by their leaders to try stupid shit like this.
