The cool island feels nice on my hot face and I feel my cheeks start to return to their normal colour.
I stay there for a while thinking over the colossally awful social interaction I just had. My heartbeat had just about returned to normal.
I am so consumed in my thoughts that I don't hear Dice enter the room.
"Y/n, are you okay?" he chuckles
"I'm sorry!" I almost yell and shoot my head up to look at him. His abrupt presence had startled me and I've started shaking again
"Hey, it's okay Y/n. I know it's a lot to take in, just calm down." he says gently
My shaking starts to subside and he smiles.
"I'm s" I start
"No, it's okay stop apologising" Dice chuckles
Dice sits down beside me and takes his plate.
We start eating.
As Dice eats his eyes start to light up.
"Wow, Y/n you didn't tell me you could cook!" Dice comments
"It's not that much, it's just eggs and bacon. I don't know how you expect me to tell you anything as you keep knocking me out!" I reply
Dice rolls his eyes, smirks and doesn't say anything.
"I learned how to cook when I was young. My dad died, and my mom couldn't keep it together so I had to learn" I say sadly and look down at the counter
I hadn't had the chance to really grieve yet, I've barely had the chance to think about my mom's death.
"I know" Dice says sympathetically
"What?" I say confused and look at him
"I know, what happened, your mother came here a lot throughout the years, people tend to talk a lot when they are drunk" Dice replies
"Oh" I say and look down at the counter again
We eat in silence for a while.
"I should probably tell you what you will be doing as my 'assistant'" Dice says
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that" I smile
Dice laughs and continues talking.
"I am basically the manager of the casino, I run around putting out fires, helping out where it's needed and do paperwork whenever I get the chance" Dice explains "The Devil is supposed to do most of the paperwork but he is apparently too busy doing "Satany things".
"You run the whole casino by yourself?" I say amazed
"Well, I did" Dice replies and winks at me "Your duties will contain much of the same things, you will probably be on your feet for most of the shift and the casino can get pretty hectic"
"Okay" I say
"For today you can just shadow me. I'll teach you to respond to situations and soon you'll be able to sort out problems on your own" Dice says
I feel a wave of relief wash over me. I was worried I was just going to be thrown in the deep end and have to work it all out on my own.
We finish eating and go over to the sink to wash the dishes.
I go to wash mine but Dice steps in front of me and takes the plate out of my hands.
"It's alright, I'll do it" He says
"Thanks" I reply and smile at him
I stand awkwardly beside him as he washes the dishes and puts them away.
"Alright Y/n, you ready?" Dice asks
"No?" I say
"It will be fine. Come on, we don't want to be late!" Dice calls already almost at the door
"This is going to be one hell of a ride" I think and start to follow him out the door
