The bell rang, indicating that the school day was over.
Penn Zero walked out of the classroom and headed straight to his locker. Putting in the combination, he opened the locker, zipped open his backpack and pulled some books out and placed them inside his locker. Suddenly...
"Day-o!"
The voice started him, causing him to hit his head with the locker door. "Ow." He said, rubbing his head. "Oh man! I am so sorry!" The voice said. Penn could tell the voice belonged to a girl. He turned his head to see the girl. She was a three months younger than him. She had blonde wavy hair that went down to her back and had blue eyes like him. She wore a beige, pink, and brown striped shirt, dark blue jeans, black combat boots, and a black leather jacket. She also had a camera hanging around her neck and a black and white backpack hanged around her back.
This was Lucille May, but she just went by Lucy. She's a reporter for the school news.
"It's okay Lucy. I'm fine." Penn said, closing the locker. "What's up?" He asked. "Found some stuff. Walk with me." Lucy said and the two of them began to walk to the entrance of the school. "Okay, So first of all, our football team made to the league championship." "Nice." The redhead said. "Okay. Then, it turns out that they're gonna charge extra money for the vending machines." "What?! Why?!" A flabbergasted Penn asked. "It's a money issue. And lastly, I have at last found out what is the mystery meat." Lucy began. "And that would be..." "Horse." The blonde said with a whisper. Penn gave a disgusted face. "Ew. Remind me to bring my own lunch for now on." Lucy giggled and nodded. "Will do." She said.
Suddenly, someone bumped into Lucy harshly. "Hey! Watch it!" She said. "You watch it, weirdo!" A blonde boy said, glaring at the girl. "Hey, leave her alone!" Penn said, glaring at the guy. The guy scoffed. "Fine. Now wonder you're a freak, weirdo. All of your friends at freaks." The guy said, and left. "Hey! At least these freaks care about her!" Penn snapped back. Lucy reached forward and placed her hand on his arm. "Just let it go, Zero." She said. Penn took a deep breath and sighed, and nodded. "Fine." He said, and they began walking again.
"That guy's wrong, you know. You're not a weirdo." Penn said. "Thanks. And you're not a freak." Lucy said. "Thanks." He replied. Lucy was somewhat unfazed being called a weirdo or freak. Being called that a lot during her childhood, the blonde girl just ignored it. But there were times where it got to her, but she wouldn't show it in public. You see, Lucy May was one that would call, an alternative girl. She was an bit of a loner, sarcastic at times, loved classic rock music, hates the modern rap songs, and was an introvert. But. She didn't care. She loved being herself. Lucy could handle herself against bullies, but backup is always nice.
"Hey guys." Penn said, greeting his friends, Sashi Kobayashi, and Boone Wiseman. "Hey PZ." Sashi said. "Hey Lucy! How's our favorite reporter doing?" Boone asked, giving her the finger guns. "Good, actually. Found some good stuff for the school paper." She said, smiling at the group. Besides Penn, Lucy only other friends were Sashi and Boone, making them a quartet. "Come on guys, Phillis doesn't want us to be late for work. Bye Lucy!" Penn said as he and his friends began to leave. "Wait!" She said, making them stop. "Yeah, Luce?" Penn asked. "Seriously? It's been nearly half a year, and you still haven't told me what your part time job is." She said. "Oh, um... you see, we um... Hey! We really have to go! Goodbye, Lucy!" Penn said and he and his friends made a run for it. "Penn! Penn! Seriously, man?!" Lucy asked.
She sighed. This was so weird. It's been months since her friends got a part time job, and they still refused to tell her what it was. Was she not trustful or something? "Nah! I'm sure it's about something else. Oh Penn? Why won't you tell me what's going on?" She thought to herself. Lucy and Penn had known each other ever since they were in the fifth grade. She remembered that day perfectly. Lucy was all alone in the playground, sitting on a swing. No one wanted to play with her. Then, Penn showed up and asked to play with her, and a wonderful friendship was born. She had met his parents, who were nice people.
