The crowds cheer his name as one by one his wins rodeos in bull riding.
"JACK THE RIDER JACK THE RIDER!!" They cheered.
"Nice riding today Jack" The coach says patting him on the back.
"Thanks but no, I could do better.." the lightheaded boy filled with pride said.
"Better?? Your in the Calgary stampede Boy! Your the best of the best!"
"I'm just gonna go for a ride on Winmear and cool off." He says in a big sigh.
"Why do you have such low esteem Jack?? You should be proud."
"Because nothing I do makes anyone proud. They just cheer because I win. I want them to cheer not just for my medals ....but for me."
"Then show them your compassion ,boy."
Jack just nodded and walked out silently. The coach walked away getting ready for Jacks next ride tomorrow.
Jack loved riding horses as much as he did with bulls. He loved the wind in his hair and the speed he can reach. In the 1850s he was the number one rider in all of Alberta. He saved the Willard's family in the huge blizzard last winter. It was almost sunset and he rode back to his house towards the sun.
He lead Winmear in the barn and put him in the stall. He walks up on the porch and opens the wooden green door. Hands on the railing as he walks up the stairs approaching a women's bedroom.
"Hey ma, how ya feelin??"
"Oh sweetie! I just heard you on the radio getting first place again!! I'm so proud of you-" She then lets out a monstrous cough.
"Have you took your medication yet??"
"Those pills just advance my sickness day by day. The doctor doesn't know what he's doing anyway."
"Ill fix you some dinner and some tea ,but please take your medication ma, just for me ??"
"Ok, then I will son, may I make a request for dinner please??"
"Of course mama, what would you like??"
"Peas and corn soup with baked bread and peach jam."
"Got'ya, It will be ready in an hour"
"I love you so much Jack. I'm so sorry I have to put yourself through this its not fair."
"I love you too....what!! Ma , don't say that we will keep fighting this together."
"I'm dying. Its just my time, but promise me you wont live your life in regret and morn me. Celebrate me!!! And continue our family by finding a wife and give your brother some nieces and nephews!!!"
"I wouldn't be ready without you" He says holding her hand.
"You will be ready in time...now , I'm hungry and I'm sure you are too. Be a doll and fix us that super I requested."
Jack worried about his mama. But he just smiled and went downstairs. He still put hope into her but she was getting worse by day.
"Next to the arena is Jack Willminer!!"
He leaped his leg over the gate and jumped on the majestic beast. He adjusts his hand on the handle with the rope and leans back as he gives the signal.
"You got this, just remember to have confidence" the coach says.
He gives a nod and the gate opens. All is quiet until the bucking and the jumping starts. "He has a great posture" the judges say. His confidence rises and a smile comes across his face. Until he hears his coach scream.
"Jack!! Its your mother!!! she's........gone."
Jack just goes loose and looses all posture and balance. He couldn't shed a tear, he couldn't shed anything. His legs went numb and before he knew it , he was up in the air and got bucked in the head by the bull. His eyes open once twice then none. All he can hear is:
"Kid, your gonna be ok....just hold on"
