Chapter 5: Here goes nothing

I take a step back from the door to allow Asher to pass through the threshold. After shutting the door, I walk with Asher to my godfather, who's seated comfortably in the kitchen.

My godfather grinning at us makes me feel a little uncomfortable, but I continue on with the dreaded introduction anyway. "Lenny, this is Asher. Asher, meet my godfather, Lenny," I say quietly.

Lenny holds out his hand to shake Asher's hand and I sigh in relief as the two begin chatting, as if they've been friends for a lifetime. It warms my heart, taking away from the darkness and continuous frustration that the reason for Lenny's visit thrust upon me. My stupid mother, how could one human be so bloody stupid?

"Alyssa." Asher says trying to get my attention, gently shaking my shoulder. I can feel the warmth radiating from his closeness and the tingles pulsating from his hand. I quickly shake out of my own little world and return to theirs.

"Huh?" I look up; they're both looking at me expectantly. "I'm sorry, what did you say?" although not knowing which one had said anything.

They both laugh as my cheeks begin to flare with redness. "I said, we should probably get going?" Asher states, again. "Reservations are at 7."

Oh yeah. The date. With Asher. That he had made reservations for! Containing my thoughts on how cute that is I nod my head looking at Lenny. He looks like he's about to burst into laughter at any moment. "Well I better head off too," He states getting out of his seat and heading to the door.

"Have fun you two. But not too much, you hear?" He says walking out the door and down the driveway to his car.

"And then there were two." I slowly look up to Asher. I grab Asher's hand as I lead him to the door, "So where are these so-called reservations that you've made?" I'm surprisingly curious to know where he's taking me. Will it be a really public place or will it be more of an intimate date?

"It's a surprise! However cliché that sounds, I want to surprise you." He opens the door of his car and waits for me to slide in.

Heading into the unknown is terrifying, okay so I'm being a little dramatic, but I don't even know one person that 'likes' surprises. Personally, they make me anxious, but with Asher it can't be that bad right? Already we're in a comfortable silence with the quiet radio playing and the soft rumble of the engine in the background.

Slowly we pull into a parking space; I look up to see a diner. I also see the sun wasn't in sight anymore, we must've travelled a little bit, especially because I don't recognize this place. It looks homely but packed with couples and families.

"It's not what your thinking." Asher's voice appears softly. But the only thing I'm thinking is that it looks quite busy. I turn to look at him but am surprised with the sight of an empty seat.

Getting out the car he opened the diner door for me and we walked through. With Asher's hand on the small of my back guiding me, and distracting me. I looked back at Asher when he led me through the 'staff only' door.

"Just trust me!" He said with a smile on his face, well okay then. Through the kitchen, no one gave us a second thought until we stopped at the back door. All the kitchen staff and some servers started whispering but I paid them no mind.

"Okay, close your eyes and don't try peaking," His hands softly came down to cover my eyes. There was a squeaking sound; I'm guessing that came from the door.

"Now walk forward," Asher's voice came very close from behind, his breath on the back of my neck. I slowly stepped forward trusting Asher to guide me. A few second's later, his hands left my eyes.
