"Shoto, what's wrong?" You asked him.

He frowned and looked down. "At this rate, he'll win and I'll end up exactly who he wants me to be."

You tilted your head at him. "What do you mean?" He looked up at you again, there seemed to be pain and hate in his eyes.

"Come with me. I need to talk to you about something." He said and took your hand, leading you off to somewhere.

Shoto had taken you to a tunnel, where you both stood on either side on the walls, facing each other. He stared directly at you, not emotion in his face but he seemed extremely serious and it made you kind of uncomfortable.

You shifted your weight. "Shoto?"

No response. He still stared at you, as if trying to see into your soul. "There was something you needed to talk to me about..?" You asked.

He stayed silent for a bit, but then finally spoke up. "I was overwhelmed. And it made me break the promise I made to myself a long time ago." He paused, bringing his left hand out of his pocket. You stayed silent and listened.

"My old man is ambitious. He aims for the top. He used his power to make a name for himself as a hero. But he was never able to best All Might, so the Symbol of Peace is living proof of his failure. He's still at it though, trying to take down All Might. One way or another." He continued.

"I understand, I've seen that when your father was around my dad. But, what are you trying to tell me?" You asked.

He looked back at you again. "Have you ever heard of.. Quirk marriages?" He asked you, and you leaned back against the wall.

"They became a problem in the first few generations after superpowers became widespread. There were those who sought out potential mates solely with the intention of creating powerful children. Many people were forced into relationships. They were simply viewed as old-fashioned arranged marriages. But, clearly, it was unethical."

"My father has not only a rich history of accomplishments, but plenty of money to throw at his problems. He bought my mother's relatives to get his hands on her quirk. And now he's raising me to usurp All Might. It's so annoying. I refuse to be a tool for that scumbag.." He paused, his voice was getting angrier.

"In every memory of my mother... I only see her crying. I remembered she called my left side unbearable, before she poured boiling water on my face." He brought his hand up to his scar, covering it. You felt your heart begin pulled at, and the feeling of tears welling up.

"The reason I picked a fight with Midoriya was to show my old man what I was capable of doing. Without having to rely on his damned fire quirk. You see.. I'm going to show him that I reject his power, and I can take first place without using it." He finished, bringing his hand back down to his side.

You swallowed thickly, you didn't know what to say, he was sharing something so meaningful for him to you. "I'm so sorry..." Was all you could get out.

He shook his head slowly. "You don't need to be. I'm sorry I let this all out on you, I know it's a lot to take. I probably shouldn't have.." He started apologizing.

"No, Shoto. It's ok, I understand and I'm glad you told me. You're carrying so much pain, that I think it's good you let me know. And I'm so sorry for what you've had to go through." You stopped him from continuing.
