Xavier brought us to a spot in the woods that was surrounded by trees that created a small circle clearing. There were lily's and other wildflowers springing up from the ground, in the middle of the small clearing was the stump of what seems to have been a huge tree. Xavier had a picnic basket on the trunk and he brought some of my art supplies out. I looked at him, he was looking at me with a sheepish smile on his face.
He rubbed his hand around the back of his neck," Too much?"
I grinned and gave him a small hug before tugging him towards the tree stump. I pointed for him to sit, then pointed to the canvas. Chucking he moved to the spot I pointed at. Time seemed to slow as I painted him sitting on the stump of what was probably once a beautiful tree. The sunlight hit his hair at just the right angle, his eyes watched me with so many emotions burning in his eyes I couldn't pinpoint them all. After two hours of painting, my stomach decided to growl.
Xavier chuckled, moved from his spot, and began unpacking the picnic basket he brought. He pulled out a whole chicken, some mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and some bottled tea.
"We're wolves, and Lisa stopped me from adding another chicken." He muttered while making a plate then handing it to me.
I frowned, " Another chicken is a good idea, one for you and one for me."
"Really, a whole chicken."
"I'm a wolf."
"But your so tiny!"
"I am not."
"Yeah you are."
"Shut up and eat."
We ate in silence, not the awkward silence, but a content one. I made my way to Xavier's lap hesitantly, before settling into his warm embrace. He ran his fingers through my hair while humming a song.
"What are you humming?" I asked.
"It's a lullaby my mother would sing to me whenever I awoke from a nightmare."
"It's beautiful."
He looked down at me as I looked up at him, " I know."
We stayed in the clearing for another hour or do just enjoying the peace and serenity nature had to offer.
