Guardians of Athain
"Why did she send us in here alone?!" I yelled to Adan over the loud roar of the Giant.
"I say we just grab the crystals and get out of here!" He yelled back. Adan seemed to have snapped out of his strange daze.
"And lead it to Casity and Alice?!" I said, puzzled. We couldn't just take them and run.
It would be like taking a dragon's treasure and then letting it chase you and your friends outside for it to finish them off. We had to end it here.
"Just trust me! I know what I'm doing!" He answered back as he grabbed a handful of loose crystals. "Just keep it busy!"
I blindly followed his plan and took out my sword. I held it behind my head. My muscles complained, but I tried not to listen. It was about to strike it's curled grey fist to smash me against the cave wall. Just like a baseball bat I said to myself.
Guardians of Athain
Chapter 1
Weird how in an instant, your entire life's course can alter. I thought I had mine all planned out. One day, I was sitting in my classroom with my friends; then the next I was in an alternate dimension fighting off fire-spitting bull bears.
Pretty weird, right?
It was a clear, beautiful morning as I skipped down the hallway to my classroom.
I took my seat by my best friends; Adan, Casity, and Alice, as always.
I was taller than Adan, which was a great accomplishment.
I often would stare off into space while my teacher would lecture his usual, boring, mono-tone voice.
Finally, class was over. Gathering my supplies, I dashed out of the room to catch up with my group.
"was Mr. Jackson's lecture more boring than usual or is it just me?" Alice asked us.
"Well, it's not really boring it's just-"
"The teacher." Alice interrupted me.
"I got to say, Taylor," Adan commented. "I think the lecture is pretty boring too."
"That's just because you don't do your homework." I teased.
"I-I do! When I can understand it!" He disagreed.
"Have you read the Chemistry book you borrowed from me three months ago?" I argued.
Adan tilted his head in confusion and then ran off. He probably just lost it I thought.
But I saw him running back and halted to a stop in front of me.
"Here. Uh, I tried to read it, but I couldn't even understand the introduction." He said, handing the thick, green book to me. "Sorry." He added, scratching the back of his head. I smiled at him and entered my math class door.
I waved to Cassie and Adan, who were not in my next class.
Lunch time came around.
Adan shoveled food into his mouth and Alice looked at him with disgust.
"So, how've you been, Cassie?" I asked. Cassie smiled in response. She doesn't really talk much. Everyone thinks she's mute, but we don't know for sure. We don't even know her parents. The only way we even knew what her name was she wrote it down. She was also unusually tall.
