The crime scene on the pier was surrounded by yellow caution tape to keep civilians out while uniformed officers patrolled the area.
Ella Lopez was already flashing photos of the body when the group arrived.
"Heya Decker; Luci. Who's the newbie?" She asked, momentarily turning away from her gruesome work.
"Ella, this is Gabriel Church. He's new to the LAPD." Chloe introduced the two.
Gabriel reached down to were Ella was kneeling and shook her hand.
"Nice to meet you, Ella. And please, no jokes about my name--I've heard plenty of them."
Ella grinned. "No sweat, newbie. I've got you covered." She repositioned her camera and flashed a photo of him.
As Gabriel blinked away the spots in his vision, he mused to himself, I've got you covered.
"So Ella, what do we have on the vic?" Chloe bent down next to the shorter woman.
"Female victim. ID dubs her Ellen Fairchild. Shot clean through the chest. Rest in peace, Ellen." Ella glanced down sorrowfully at the corpse.
"She'll probably receive her just reward, assuming she lived a good life." Gabriel spoke, mostly to himself.
Ella stood up. "I know, right? So many people don't believe in that stuff, but I think it's so interesting!"
Gabriel turned to her. "What else do we know about the victim?"
"Ah, she was killed a few hours ago, so that would make it around three in the morning when she was shot." Ella confirmed.
"Three in the morning? Doesn't sound like open pier hours. Was she meeting with someone?"
"Can't tell for sure. There's a security camera over yonder, but it doesn't cover this area of the dock." Dan supplied.
"Lucifer, what do you think?" Chloe turned to the empty space behind her.
"Lucifer?"
She heard laughter, and turned to spot her partner chatting with a very tan and very busty lifeguard. She sighed and rubbed her forehead.
Gabriel looked over to where she was staring and frowned. "Does he normally do this?"
"Without fail." Chloe muttered.
Lucifer was making air movements in front of his chest, cupping his hands and speaking enthusiastically. Gabriel huffed and marched over.
"Luci, your partner is waiting." Gabriel took his hand to the devil's shoulder.
"Ah, not now brother. I'm just in the middle of a discussion with this lovely woman, Carol." Lucifer grinned broadly at the guard.
"I can see that. And so can Chloe." Gabriel gestured to the dock where Chloe was pacing and watching out of the corner of her vision.
"Oh alright. Sorry, Carol, my killjoy of a brother has come to deliver me from evil. See you tonight?"
"Tonight." The bubbly lifeguard cooed, letting her generous cleavage bob shamefully in front of him.
"Good girl." Lucifer allowed himself to be led back towards the crime scene.
"Did you learn anything useful?" Chloe asked.
"Oh, plenty. But the most interested part was when Carol mentioned seeing a man in a black jacket enter the docks after hours. She thinks he was waiting for someone." Lucifer supplied.
"Alright, if we assume this is our guy, then he was waiting for our victim. Why?"
"LNS?" Lucifer suggested.
