As Carys ascended the trail of the mountain, she thought back on the decision she made three hours prior. What if something goes wrong? Her legs ached from the two-hour trek she had started, wanting to take a break from the constant walking. Though she was tired, she continued, needing to reach the top by sunrise. She picked up her pace, not caring how many times she stumbled on the rocky path. As the rounded the last rock in sight, she saw it.
I made it. She thought to herself. Breaking out into a sprint, she stood on edge of the jagged cliff, eyes lighting up as she viewed the town below. She looked behind her to the moon just as it finished setting, her view now becoming pitch black. She turned around, facing where the sun would rise. As the light from the sun began to peek over the horizon, she finalized her decision.
I have to do this. It's the perfect time. She thought with confidence. The bright rays filled the sky and she leaped. Though she didn't fall-she did exactly what she predicted and flew. Large indigo wings erupted from her back and she soared through the sky in the morning light. It was worth the all-nighter; it was worth the two-hour hike. To fly as high as she was, at sunrise no less, it was an achievement she would remember for the rest of her life.
