It had been a long school day, everyone was so excited to leave. For reasons
that we did not know, all the doors were locked. No one was able to leave the building. Staff members tried so hard to unlock the doors, but failed. It felt as if it took forever, but in the end, we managed to break out.
Once we stepped outside, we were surprised to see the beautiful moon shining it's luminescent light.
"Come on, Louella! Let's go home," I heard someone say.
I couldn't quite make out the person's voice, it sounded so.. faint. I began walking towards the parking lot where my parents would always wait for me, by the edge of the forest. Every time, you could hear the little birds singing their song. That's what I would look forward to, the woodland creatures emitting noises and just being themselves.
But it was the opposite this time. There were no noises coming from the forest. And on top of that, the parking space was empty. I couldn't see any familiar cars. I frantically reached for my phone and started dialing my dad's number. I began to think the worst things. What if he's in trouble? Oh no.. what if.. what if he's dead? I immediately shook my head as if to to make sure that idea left my mind. That couldn't happen.
"Hello?" my dad said from the phone.
"Dad? Where are you?" I said.
"We're on our way home."
"But I need you to pick me up from school."
"Okay, I'm going to go to the house real quick and come back to pick you up."
"Okay."
I then hung up the phone. I wondered what was so important that he couldn't pick
me up. I began to look at the sky. It looked so beautiful with the twinkling stars. I began to focus on my surroundings. I wanted to see who was still at school. There were shadows moving about inside. But the light was so bright I couldn't tell who exactly was still here.
I started heading inside the building. I didn't want to stay outside in the pitch
black alone. As I stepped foot inside, you wouldn't have known that there were people still here. The hallways were empty, no sign of life. I began to stroll down the hallway, hoping to encounter someone. And I did. Two strange men that I've never seen before. They gave off bad vibes, so I picked up the pace.
"Hey! Stop!" one of them yelled at me.
I turned around to face them. They pulled out guns and pointed them at me.
"Don't move and we won't shoot," one of them told me.
I didn't want to die. Not then. Not that way. So I obeyed them. They directed me
to a secluded room filled with snakes. I gasped at the sight. All the snakes quickly turned around to look at me. They started slithering towards me. I noticed a high chair at the corner and ran to it, hoping the snakes won't slither up the chair.
There was a boy already in the room. I could feel him watching me while I was
shrieking.
"Umm.. can you do something about them?" I asked him, talking about the
snakes.
"Sure," he replied. Within a snap of a finger, he killed one of the snakes. Blood
gushed out everywhere. I tightly squeezed my eyes, not wanting to see that. After the snake was killed, two snakes came to replace it. The boy was confused, but he killed the two new snakes just as he did the first one. As soon as both of the snakes were killed, four more appeared. He chuckled to himself.
"Can't you just move them to side?" I asked him.
He immediately took my advice. He grabbed the snakes and moved them to
another room.
"I'm Kieran," he told me.
"Louella," I replied.
As soon as we introduced ourselves, a girl walked in. Kieran immediately cleared
his throat. He moved to the side to make space for the girl to roam. She came towards me with the most sympathetic face.
"And that's Darci," Kieran told me, signaling to the girl.
"You okay?" she asked me with a sweet, high-pitched voice.
I shook my head. She frowned at the sight of my actions. She started looking
around, as if to find the right words to say. But she couldn't seem to find them. I didn't know how long I had been in the school, but I just wanted to leave.
Darci began playing with my hair. She also started putting my hair in braids. I
hoped she couldn't sense my shaky breath, considering she was standing so close. As soon as she was done with the braids, she stood up and sat across the room. She began studying me, as if to see why they're holding me hostage. I began to wonder the same thing.
I noticed that my phone started vibrating. I checked to see what notification I've
received. My heart skipped a beat. Dad.. I began to read the text from him. "I'm here, where are you?" I started squealing from the inside. I couldn't believe it. This was my chance. My chance to escape.
"I left something in the courtyard, can I go get it?" I asked Darci and Kieran.
They looked at each other, and made weird faces, as if deciding if I can wander
off. Darci turned to look at me, and began to speak, but was interrupted by Kieran.
"Sure, just come back as soon as you get your stuff," Kieran said to me.
I smiled at him, as if to thank him for his permission. I began to slowly walk out
the room, watching my step to not walk near any snakes. As soon as I was out of their eyesight, I began to run out of the building. I saw my dad's car and ran as fast as I possibly could.
I could hear shouting and footsteps behind me. I knew I was being chased. I
didn't know if I was going to be able to make it. I finally reached the car and opened the car door. I hopped in and slammed the door behind me.
"Drive as fast as you can. Now!" I said to my dad.
He began to drive off at a high speed. I looked behind me and I saw few
shadows chasing after us. What will happen now?
