"Sam, I know you think you're gonna try and fix me, but did it ever occur to you that maybe I don't want to be fixed? Just let me go live my life. I won't bother you. What do you care?"
"Ritum sacrum... Hanc terram consecro." Sam started.
"You think I'm just gonna sit here like Crowley, getting all weepy while you shoot me up? Well, screw that. I don't want this."
"Yeah, I pretty much figured that out." Sam answered.
"You don't even know if this is gonna work, do you? You know, I got a hell of a lot more running through me than just demon juice." Dean said in a condescending tone.
"Mark of Cain - got it."
"That's right."
"Buckle up."
"Sammy... You know I hate shots."
"I hate demons." Sam retorted.
Sam continued, even through Dean's grunts of discomfort, and he didn't plan to stop until his brother was cured. Sam took a break and went out into the hall to make a quick phone call.
"Sam?" Castiel's voice responded from the other end.
"Cas. Hey, are you still coming?" He was too preoccupied to notice the weariness in Cas' voice.
"I'm a few hours away. Is the treatment working?"
"No, not very well. Look, I-it's not like it was with Crowley. Dean's in pain. I mean, he's in bad pain. I-it's like he's barely holding on. Cas... I might be killing him."
"It might be."
"So...What? Should I stop?"
"And do what? He's not possessed. Exorcism is out of the question. The ritual of purified blood is the only treatment I know."
"Cas, did you not hear what I just said? I could be killing my brother." Sam responded, almost frantically.
"Sam, he's not your brother - at least not now. You have to be prepared for-"
"Killing my brother." Sam finished Cas' sentence.
"I'll be there as soon as I can." Cas reassured him.
"Yeah, all right. I'll, uh, I'll leave the entry unlocked for you. Just hurry." Sam said, hanging up and turning back to Dean.
"Hey! Hey! Dean! Come on! Come back. Come back to me. You there? Hey! Dean, you okay?"
"Yeah, if you consider drowning in your own sweat while your blood boils okay."
"Look, I can't stop doing this."
"Sure you can. You just stop. There's no point in trying to bring your brother back now."
"Oh, I will bring him back."
"In fact, your, uh, guilt-ridden, weight-of-the-world bro has been M.I.A. for quite some time now. But I'm loving the new model - lean, mean Dean. You notice I tried to get as far away from you as possible? Away from your whining, your complaining. I chose the King of Hell over you. Maybe I was just tired of babysitting you or always having to yank your lame ass out of the fire since... forever." Dean said with a chuckle.
"Or maybe - maybe it was the fact that my mother would still be alive if it wasn't for you. That your very existence sucked the life out of my life." Dean said, his black eyes staring up at his younger brother.
"This isn't my brother talking." Sam said sternly.
"You never had a brother - just an excuse for not manning up. But guess what. I quit."
"No. No, you don't. You don't get to quit. We don't get to quit in this family. This family is all we have ever had!"
"Well, then, we got nothin'." Dean said nonchalantly.
"Would you say that to dad?"
"Dad? Oh, there's a prize. Here's a man who brainwashed us into wasting our lives fighting his losing battle. Oh. Ooh. Is this you manning up?"
"This is me yanking your lame ass out of the fire.
"You're welcome." Sam said, plunging another syringe into Dean's arm.
Sam turned and left the room, shutting the door behind him.Meanwhile Adina tracked down Hannah and Castiel and attacked them both. Cas had been beaten pretty badly and was left laying on his back surrounded by the shattered glass from the door he was thrown through. Adina then began to troupe Hannah and was only saved by Crowley, who surprised her, stole her grace and then killed her. He then went ahead and gave that grace to Cas so he could be back to almost-full potential and assured him it was purely business. Crowley needed Cas to be able to fix Dean because he had become a pretty big problem for him.
Back at the bunker, Sam headed back into the dungeon so he could administer the next set of injections and as he turned the corner, the door was wide open and the chair was empty. Dean was loose in the bunker.
"Come on, Sammy! Don't you want to hang out with your big brother? Spend a little quality time?" Dean asked, his voice echoing throughout the bunker.
Sam went to the main foyer and grabbed a set of keys and headed over to the electrical room to turn off the power, which sent the alarm blaring.
"Smart, Sam. Locking the place down. Doors won't open. I get it. But here's the thing. I don't want to leave. Not till I find you."
Sam accidental hits something, making an audible clatter sound.
"Sammy! You're just making this worse for yourself, man! Oh, by the way, you can, uh...blame yourself for me getting loose. All that blood you pumped into me to make me human - well," he chuckled. "The less demon I was, the less the cuffs worked. And that Devil's Trap - well, I just walked right across it. It smarted. But still..." Dean said loudly, while walking towards the drawer that Sam opened earlier. Upon checking it he noticed the keys were gone and headed for the electrical room, he found the door cracked open and so he went inside to see if Sam was there.
"Yeah, that's more like it." He said as he flipped the power switch back on.
Sam quickly rushed forward from down the hall and shut the door, locking Dean inside with the keys.
"That's your big move?"
"Listen to me, Dean! We were getting close, okay? I know you're still in there somewhere. Just let me finish the treatments. Dean?" Sam said leaning close to the door, when suddenly there was a loud thud against, which sent Sam reeling backwards. The thudding continued and the door begin bursting open from Dean's blows with the hammer.
"You act like I want to be cured. Personally, I like the disease." Dean said with a smile while looking at Sam through the hole in the door.
"Dean! Stop that! Look, I don't want to use this Blade on you!"
"Oh! That sucks for you, doesn't it? 'Cause you really mean that." Dean said, pausing his blows to the door to laugh.
"Look, if you come out of that room, I won't have a choice!"
Sure you will! And I know which one you'll make. Isn't that right, Sammy? But, see... Here's the thing. I'm lucky. Oh, hell, I'm blessed. 'Cause there's just enough demon left in me that killing you ain't no choice at all." Dean said, knocking another hole in the door, large enough to kick through it. Sam bolted down the hall.
"Sammy? Come on, Sammy! Let's have a beer, talk about it. I'm tired of playing. Let's finish this game!" Dean said, his voice filling the halls of the bunker again. Sam was leaning around a wall, checking to see if it was clear, he leaned back and realized Dean was swinging the hammer at his head. He ducked and the hammer collided with the wall, getting stuck in it. Sam quickly reacted, placing his blade at Dean's throat. Dean chuckled as he started to speak.
"Well...Look at you. Do it. It's all you."
Sam hesitated and then removed his blade from his brother's throat. Dean's eyes went black and he started to lunge forward in Sam's direction. But Castiel was quick enough to hold him back.
"It's over. Dean, it's over." Cas said, while Dean continued to fight back.
"Aaaaah!" Dean growled and grunted back.
"It's over." Cas said as they got into a position to get him back to the chair in the dungeon to continue the ritual.
"What the hell are we doing to him, Cas? I mean, even after I gave him all that blood, he still said he didn't want to be cured, that he didn't want to be human."
"Well... I see his point. You know, only humans can feel real joy, but... also such profound pain. This is easier."
Dean began to fidget and groan and Sam started getting the holy water ready while Cas was ready with his Angel blade.
"You look worried, fellas."
Sam and Cas exchanged glances then Sam threw the water on him.
"Welcome back, Dean."Cas was left to look after Dean while Sam left to go get him some food.
"You look terrible." Cas said as he walked into Dean's room, which made Dean chuckle.
"You know, it wouldn't kill you to lie every now and again."
"No, it wouldn't kill me. I just...you -"
"Forget it. Well, you, on the other hand, you're looking good. So...are you back?"
"At least temporarily. Yeah, it's a long story - Crowley, stolen Grace. There's a female outside in the car. Another time." Cas said, as Dean become more and more confused.
"Well, thank you for, um... Stepping in when you did. What does Sam say? Does he want a divorce?"
"I'm sure Sam knows that whatever you said or what you did, that wasn't really you. It certainly wasn't all you."
"I tried to kill him, Cas."
"Dean, you two have been through so much. Look, you're brothers. It'd take a lot more than trying to kill Sam with a hammer to make him want to walk away."
"You realize how screwed up our lives are that that even makes sense?" Dean replied, making Cas chuckle. "I'm glad you're here, man."
"Hey, maybe you should, um...take some time before you get back to work, allow yourself to heal. It's, uh... I don't know. Timing might be right. Heaven and Hell - they seem reasonably back in order. It's quiet out there." Cas said, shutting the door behind him on the way out.Meanwhile, somewhere else a woman sat in a chair reading as a small drip of red landed on her arm, she nonchalantly wiped it away with a cloth and carried on reading. She stopped again a couple minutes later to wipe away another droplet and decided to remove the bodies she had pinned to the ceiling.
**A/N**
Okay so the next chapter will be less like the show, and more my own version of how things go. I hope everyone has enjoyed it this far and any feedback, both good and bad, is very much appreciated.
