Penelope's checklist (How I plan to rock junior year!!!)

- Try a new hairstyle (a bob cut or a new hair color)

- Run for student council position (vice pres probably)

- Apply for a writing position in the Preston journal

I was on the fifth bullet when I heard a knock on my door. "come in" I said. The door opens and my best friend in the whole wide world appears on the door frame which made me squeal.

"Jade! Why didn't you call me?" I shut my diary as she lunged unto me, engulfing me in a very tight hug making both of us chuckle. She looks good in her newly tanned skin, maybe that's the result from all the surfing and sunbathing she did at her mother's homeland. Miami did her good.

"I wanted to surprise you!" said Jade after breaking the hug. She looks around my room probably surprised that I finally did the remodeling I was planning two years ago.

"What is that?" she was pointing at my diary. I was about to get it but she beat me to it by snatching it from my hand. "woah there!" I yelped trying to tackle her but she was able to stand up quickly and read the contents of my most beloved notebook.

"Don't laugh!" I uttered and gave her dagger looks. She read my checklist outloud and added, "get myself a hot boyfriend" which made me roll my eyes. "That is the least of my priorities" I replied.

"Oh c'mon Penny! One cannot rock junior year without having the ultimate experience" Jade said with a serious tone in her voice. She's always concerned with my nonexistent love life.

"Pity me, I am not the dating type" I said in response which made her sigh. "Fine, I'll deal with your dating issues later because I wanted to tell you something" said Jade.

"What is it?" I asked. I braced myself for the confession my best friend's going to make. She usually has big confessions like last year when she told me her parents are getting a divorce and also that one time when she slapped the queen bitch, Maggie Nichols at a party. That's why you can't blame me for having mini heart attacks everytime she makes her confessions/announcements.

"How am I going to start?" She gave a little laugh then inhaled a deep breath. "Remember when I told you through chat that I have a flirtationship with someone?" said Jade with a shy smile on her face. Yes of course I remember that. I got upset because she won't tell me the name of the mystery guy. What a friend!!

"Yes, I do remember and for the record I'm still annoyed you won't tell me who the guy is!!!" I replied while rolling my eyes for full effect earning a chuckle from Jade.

"Well, you'll finally know who he is" she said with an excited tone. I raised my eyebrows waiting for her to spill the beans.

"It's Clark Stewart!" She finally said. I was shocked to say the least. Clark Stewart?! What in the freaking shit did my best friend get herself with? That man is an absolute ass! I don't want to see Jade crying when Clark is done with her. Should I check her brain? I'm really concerned for my bestfriend's welfare.

"Hello?" Jade said as she waved her hand in front of me. "S-sorry I was just surprised" I said collecting the right words to say. I don't want to burst her bubble but I am really disappointed.

"I know that Clark isn't the type of guy you thought I would date. I am fully aware of the guy's reputation but just so you know he's really different with me" she said avoiding eye contact. Different my ass? Okay I'll hold judgment until I get to third wheel, do some background check and other investigations.

"Jade, you are my only best friend. I don't want you to get hurt but also I won't be the barricade to this budding romance" I said with a reassuring smile. I felt Jade exhale a breath of relief. We exchanged a tight hug and I pat her back, a gesture she likes when she wants to be comforted.

"Great! Now let's go to the mall because we need a killer outfit for a party later" said Jade. My eyes widen. A party? Why am I not aware of this shindig? Jade must have sensed my curiosity. "Yes! A goodbye summer party held by Kyle Dayton and if you are planning to run for student council this school year that's a good place to get started" She said with a wink.

Oh boy I almost forgot. Today is the last Saturday of vacation before school starts.
