Brock stood on the cliff at the top of the survivor's bunker. He looked down at the valley that had once been no man's land where the resistance only went out to hunt at need. He saw hundreds of tents and structures being built. It was a challenge to re tame the terrain and build but humanity was figuring it out. It was nearly a year since they had taken out the controllers and as far as they knew none were left. The alien forces were all but decimated, only some of the lowest drones remaining.
"The people to the east edge want to expand out to the next ridge," Willis said as she walked up and hugged Brock from behind. "Rick says there's some dangerous plants there and we need to study them first."
"I would trust Rick on this," Brock admitted. "Have him and Shane look into it. We might find another medicinal plant."
"I can almost guarantee they are already planning on it," Harris replied. "I will admit that I don't really want to work today."
"Yeah, we have been working like every day," Brock admitted. "But can we really take a day off?"
"Well, you are the leader of the free people of this region," Harris commented. "There is literally no one who can tell you that you can't take a day off."
Brock laughed. "I do suppose you are right. What did you have in mind for us to do in this supposed day off?"
"Nothing," Harris replied. "We have time and the future before us. I am enjoying the idea of doing literally nothing and everything we want."
"I like the sound of that," Brock said with a smile. "I think we very much earned it."
