Chapter two

To me, true love is the sweetest thing in life, that’s why we’re all either in love or looking for love. Sometimes you have to work for it – especially when life gets in the way – but I believe in true, deep love is always worth fighting for. At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet. Too bad all that people wanted from me was fame and money. But deep down no one noticed that I was lonely. Lonely every single day of my life. I smile all the time so nobody knows how sad and lonely I really am – Lance Sullivan

LANCE’S POV

Sitting in my office I leaned back on my plush black chair and closed my eyes wondering how lonely I was. I was a multi-millionaire no doubt but I had earned every single penny through my hard work. But really what could I when my parents were too busy that they couldn’t spare enough time for their only child. I snorted. Yeah they were busy making more money as if they need any and instead squandered their time trying to maintain a good image in the society. The sole reason for me to take up this business was that at least I could gain some of their attention, so that they would at least acknowledge me but the plan backfired.

My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by when I heard a knock on the door. “Come in,” I barked. My best friends head popped in. “hello, my brother from another mother,” he greeted. “How are you this fine morning?” he continued. I guffed with an okay. “Hmmm… seems to me that you woke up on the wrong side of the bed” he said and plopped unceremoniously on the leather seat in front of me. “Hardy har har… aren’t you just so hilarious?” I retorted sarcastically. “What is that you want?” I asked. “Well cant I just drop by and say hello to my only friend?” he replied. “Please don’t insult my intelligence. I have known you for what? Eight years?” I continued deep in thought, “And I cannot recollect a single occasion when there was not an ulterior motive behind your appearance.” I said.

He chuckled. “You got me brother.” He said. “Well I just received an invitation from the Phoenix Company stating that they are going to announce the new CEO of the company,” he stated. “Peachy!” I replied, “And it concerns me because—” “I have two invitees and I want you to be my plus one” he replied innocently. “Hell no!” my voice boomed. “Pretty please with a chocolate on the top of the cake…” he started making a puppy dog face. “Your look is just so gross on so many levels. Please refrain from that in the future.” I gagged. “It won’t be our first time Lancey” he started fluttering his eyelashes just like a chick. “Dude just stop it! You look like a moron. Besides why don’t you ask one of your many conquest to go with you?” I suggested. He groaned.

“Dude you know how clingy they all really are. It gives me a headache to make them really understand that I am seriously not interested, he said. “Come on dude I will owe you one,” he continued. “Fine. Alright! Stop winning already,” I replied sighing. “What time are you coming to my place?” I questioned.

“What time do you want me honey?” he sweetly replied. I leaned forward and smacked him on his forehead. “Dude, no violence,” and he started rubbing his forehead. “Stop being so stupid” I told him seriously. “What crawled up your ass and died?” he asked and when he saw the glare on my face he replied, “Will be there by six.” He got up and retreated back to the door when he suddenly paused, looked back and mockingly said “Don’t be late!” with that he ran past my door laughing. I shook my head and cracked a small smile. That idiot was never going to change.

Archer was the only closest thing that I had who loved me for me and not my money and fame. He was the only constant in my life. Kept me from going insane. He was a true friend and a brother to me since high school. Without him I might have turned into a cold person without any feelings. The only two people who mattered to me or took interest in my life was my best friend Archer and Faith. I owed my success to both of these people. Shaking these thoughts out of my head, I rose from my chair to pack up for the day. Once I left my office, I told my PA to cancel all the meetings for the day. I went to the parking lot and slid in my Hennessy Venom GT. Now she was my baby. My most prized possession. I had named her Hendy. She was a classic beauty with a HP of 1244. When I switched on the ignition she purred to life and I made my way to my lane and entered my mansion. I pulled Hendy back to my garage and took the elevator and reached my floor. I walked down the hallway toward the end and entered my bedroom. I took out my laptop and started preparing my presentation for my next meeting. I was so immersed in my work that I didn’t see Maria enter my bedroom. “Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Young is waiting for you downstairs.” She said. Oh shit! I was not yet ready. “Send him upstairs” I requested and one more thing I added, “Stop calling me Mr. Sullivan. How many times do I have to tell you? Calling me Lance works just fine with me.” I scolded good naturedly. She smiled sweetly and I could see wrinkles forming around her eyes. And she retreated back.
