Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Nexus sighs, why must other siders always insist on tapping the glass? Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Never before had they had someone who tapped this much. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Were they trying to get in? They were, oh no. No, no, no, no. An other side could not come in! They would be devoured within a second. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Nexus groaned as their body moved against their will out of the mirror frame, solitude at last.

"Nexusssss, the dutiesssss are going well, I pressssume?" Nexus shivered at the dark tone from behind.

"Yes, mother. They suspect naught." A hiss of pleasure was heard before the telltale clink of Mother's exit. Nexus looked up into their looking glass, a million reflections stared back as Nexus morphed out of each one until they were back to their original form. Ash grey skin, slightly feminine, but masculine as well. Straight clear hair and white eyes stared back at Nexus. They placed a hand on the looking glass, it was smooth, sticky and rough at the same time.

"Othersiders, beware mother. She will stop at nothing for your pure energy."

Crash.

Nexus jumped, looking around at a fluffy pink room, and a terrified teenager, in black, on their bed.

"Omg, omg, omg omg." They chanted, looking Nexus up a down. Nexus glanced at themselves, nothing had changed, it was still Nexus.

"You, you freed Nexus?" Nexus tilted their head, crawling closer to the teen who was looking from Nexus to the broken looking glass on the floor, horrified.

"Alyssa, love, are you alright? The teen glanced at Nexus before calling to her mom.

"Yea, mum, I'm alright!" Nexus crawled even closer, sniffing Alyssa with their small, button nose. Alyssa scooted back on her bed, getting closer to the wall as Nexus followed.

"What are you?"

"A protector." Alyssa shook her head, burrowing under the covers.

"This isn't real! I'm dreaming!" Nexus watched as a pale hand snaked out of the covers to shut off the light. Darkness enveloped the room, Nexus's favorite.
