It's been two days since Pam settles into her new residence. She hasn't made many acquaintances yet but she feels that about to change. Pam over heard that one of the more skilled Pizzamancers was going to hold a meeting for magically inclined residents to assist in acclimating to the magic of Pizza Souls. This seemed like a good opportunity to work on her powers.
She wakes up an hour after sunrise and heads to the dining hall for breakfast. A few folks are milking about, but most are sleeping in this morning. Pam approaches the tables on which the breakfast is organized. In a world dominated by pizza, the selection isn't too diverse. However, some culinary feats can be achieved. French toast made from harvested pizza crust, Ja'am eggs, and pepperoni bacon are on one table, while the offered drinks including water, tomato juice, and Botions. Pam grabs a plate of Ja'am eggs and pepperoni bacon. She looks over the Botions with curiosity before deciding it's probably smarter to get water in her system before her work today since she doesn't really know what the Botions are.
She sits down at the long table stretching across the dining hall. As she dips a slice of her bacon in egg yolk, she hears someone set their plate next to hers and sit down. Pam looks over to see a stout reptilian humanoid. The stranger says to Pam in a raspy voice, "Hello my name is Jerry Potter. I'm a lizard." Pam nods her head with mild interest and replies, "Pam came yesterday. Still new." As the two eat their breakfast, Jerry tells Pam that he's going to the Pizzamancer's meeting.
"Before I came here I was good at making Botions, but since my dad was a good Wizard I feel like learning more magic stuff too. Why are you going?"
Pam searches for the words to describe her situation. She replies to Jerry, "Pam used lots of power to get here. Now is time for regaining strength." Jerry seems satisfied with the answer, not asking her to explain her origin. The two finish eating and head outside the castle.
When Pam finds the Pizzamancer, she sees him talking to a couple folks. She recognizes one as the oily woman DJ with horns. She doesn't recognize the other one though. She is a magnificent woman with blonde hair and red tattoos covering her body. The Pizzamancer sees Pam and Jerry and greets them with a wave. The tall woman holds out a hand and says, "You're the new gal, right? I'm Tamatha Radbody, though most of my friends just call me Tammy." Pam shakes Tammy's hand and says "Yes, Pam is new." The woman with horns asks Pam, "Have I seen you before?" Pam replies, "You we're performing when Pam got here." The woman nods and introduces herself as DJ Slimetime. Pam notes that she does not seem very social.
Once everyone is done introducing themselves to Pam, the Pizzamancer beckons the group to a pathway that leads down the hill on which the castle is seated. He explains, "we shouldn't be doing anything too dangerous, but it's best we practice magic away from the castle." Pam knows her powers used to be godlike, but they will need training to reach their peak.
The Pizzamancer stops them at the base of the hill. "First we're going to discuss how magic works in this realm. There are four facets of magical energy we can work with: Cheese, Sauce, Crust, and Pepperoni. Cheese magic is best used for manipulating physical structures, such as telekinesis. Think of this in the way that cheese can stretch, twist, and break; with this energy we can impose similar forces on the world around us. Let's try this."
The group starts working on forming shapes out of the landscape around them. Tammy effortlessly swirls her hands over the ground, forming a flower with pepperoni petals. The Pizzamancer nods at her with approval.
Jerry takes a bit to get the hang of it, but he eventually levitates a bubble of cheese and tomato sauce out of the ground. He sustains it for a few seconds before it pops and splatters the group. The Pizzamancer wipes some cheese and sauce off of his face and consoles Jerry, "I know you can get the hang of it, and you improved so much since last session. Just Keep working on it."
DJ Slimetime flourishes a small, lumpy rocking chair of bread from the ground under her. After this, she proclaims, "This is the best use for magic." She then sits down in it and begins humming to herself as she rocks. The Pizzamancer compliments her technique and turns his attention to Pam.
Pam focuses her power into her hands, and pieces of bread and pepperoni break free from the ground and take the shape of a battle axe in her hands. The Pizzamancer raises his eyebrows. "Very impressive! A feat like that takes power and grace to do. Well done, Pam"
The Pizzamancer then continues on with the lesson. "The second exercise we're doing is focused on Sauce magic. This is used to change the attributes or qualities of physical reality. This aligns with how using a tomato sauce will create a very different tasting pizza compared to an white sauce. We can utilize Sauce magic for a variety of aspects including weight, light, and material."
DJ Slimetime quickly gets up from her chair and holds out her arms. Suddenly she floats into the air, flailing her arms to stay balanced. The Pizzamancer grins at her and says "Great form as always." DJ Slimetime slowly descends, settling back into her chair where she resumes rocking.
Jerry lifts his palms upwards, and bright lights flutter out of his hands off towards the sky. The Pizzamancer praises him for the display.
Tammy kneels down and places a hand on the ground. The red sauce around her ripples out into dirt, and the cheese becomes grass. Tammy holds this for a few moments before releasing her grasp on the area around her. As the forestry reverts back to pizza, she sighs, "I know I can do it, but I can't keep it for long." The Pizzamancer places a hand on her shoulder and says, "It's okay, that'll just come with practice over time."
Pam holds the battle axe aloft and with a quick spin, she flings it into the air. As she catches it, the material of the handle fades into ebony and the blades become crystalline. The Pizzamancer beams at her and says, you're turning out to be quite the magician, Pam." Pam smiles, glad to see her power growing.
The Pizzamancer explains, "The third type of magic we will deal with is Crust Magic. This is used for protection and healing. When dough is brought into a scorching oven, it hardens and absorbs the heat of the flame to make itself stronger." He holds out a hand and conjures a small flame. "See if you can make your hand immune to fire."
Without getting up from her chair, DJ Slimetime says, "I'm not going to do that, I plan on avoiding any potential conflicts."
Jerry closes his eyes and breathes deeply. He reaches towards the flames and yelps, pouring a Botion on his hand to cool it off.
Tammy breathes in deeply. As she exhales her hand is coated in a gold shimmer. She reaches out and passes her hand through the fire unscathed.
Pam is confident. After all, she is no stranger to playing with Fire. Her hand begins to glow gold, but then the glow melts into a red hue. As she touches the flame, her skin begins to blister. When she takes her hand out, the blisters fade until her hand is undamaged.
The Pizzamancer then says, "you've all done well so far, but we are at the final type of magic. Pepperoni Magic is used in causing damage. Pepperoni is made from wounded flesh. This can take the form of fire, lightning, venom, or any other element that causes damage. We will be only be doing this at a basic level as it is only for dire circumstances." He motions toward the ground and three figures made of cheese rise up.
Tammy reaches towards the cheeseman on the left. A wave of warmth emanates from her, but it only gives the cheese a a subtle melt.
Jerry takes on the middle figure. He jabs at it and a bolt of electricity causes it to burst.
Pam looks at the final cheese figure and clutches her fist. A sonic boom knocks everyone else to the ground as red mushroom cloud rises from the burnt husk of the cheese.
Pam looks excitedly back at the Pizzamancer, only to see a look of horror on his face. He quickly gets up from the ground and stammers out, "Well everyone, that was enough for today, I really must be going now." And he breaks into a sprint towards the castle.
As Pam returns to her room, she feels everyone watch her with apprehension. It seems that her stunt was visible from the castle. She shuts the door behind her and lays down on the bed.
The Pizzamancer races to a specific room and knocks frantically. As the door opens on a concerned Turbo Viki; he says to her, "We have a big problem."
