"Take your seats class. We have a new friend joining us today." the teacher announced as a young girl with silky, short brown hair walked into the classroom with a notebook in her hands. "Okay. Introduce yourself."
Silence.
A quick tap on the shoulder influenced her to open the notebook the first page where two sentences emerged. 'Hello I'm Shouko Nishimiya. Nice to meet you.' the pages read. A hast turn of the second page revealed her inability to hear and her desire for people to communicate through her notebook, leaving the Shoya Ishida, a classmate, in hysterics.
As questions and answers were written in the notebook, a classmate called Ueno approached her and asked "If you wear hearing aids, can you hear?" Lifting Shoko's hair up and revealing the hearing aids, she asked if she could look them. As Shouko removed them and gave them to her, Shoya called from across the room, "Hey! Ueno, what is it? Show me!" Ueno tossed the hearing aids to Shoya who launched them out of the window after calling them gross...
From that day, nothing changed...
