"Daniel, I swear...did you or did you not eat my sandwich?" I am about to choke him out maybe then he'll start taking this seriously.

"I might have eaten it but I didn't know it was yours...I thought you'd made it for me like the darling you are." he says it so casually with that stupid smirk.

"Well then, darling, how about you, oh I don't know make me another sandwich. I mean unless of course you're busy..." I say innocently yet he knows exactly where I'm going with this.

"Maybe I could-" my phone interrupts him as I hear it vibrate in my bag. Pulling out my eyes are glued to the caller ID.

"Who is it?" I hear him ask but I can't bring myself to answer him or the phone. Eventually it stops ringing and I can't help but release a breath I didn't know I was holding.

He always calls, every month. I should know this by now. Normally I just reject his call but this time it really took me by surprise.

Calm down, Cass. Just ignore it like you always do. You owe him nothing. Yeah, I don't owe him anything.

"Is everything alright?" Daniel skims his eyes over me, furrowed eyebrows and all.

"Yeah, just some persistent salesperson trying to shove their company merchandise down my throat." I say, rolling my eyes.

I'm not exactly lying I mean I did get a phone call from a weird salesman earlier, I think his name was Titus and he was trying to sell me a car insurance even though I didn't have a car.

"Ahh, those guys," he says knowingly, "I mean which part of I don't need pet insurance do they not understand."

"Right?"

As soon as the laughter dies down I remember why I woke up so early today. "Oh shit, I have that interview over at Jill's today."

Scrambling for my purse and CV, I rush past Daniel planting a quick kiss on his cheek. "Byeeeeeeee..." I say practically running towards the door.

"Good luck, babe." I hear just before I shut the door.

I press the elevator button and it seems like years before I hear the ting announcing its arrival. Finally...

Stepping in I reach for the button to the ground floor. "Wait." I ram my foot in between the elevator door.

Then I see a hand. As the door reopens I immediately regret stopping the elevator.

"Thank yo- wait, CJ is that you?"
The fact that he almost sounds excited to see me doesn't sit well with me.

"Oh, hey, yeah it's me...Cassandra." Bumping into your ex-boyfriend who also broke up with you because he 're-discovered' his sexuality...in the same damn building!

"I did not know you live here...talk about destiny am I right?" More like hell.

"Oh I...am staying at a friend's..."Is this elevator broken or something?

I feel my phone vibrate again in my bag, pulling it out more hesitantly this time, I check the caller ID.

"Margo, hey." I sing into the phone. "I told you not to call me that." I hear her grumble a colorful string of profanities.

Nichole had gone through a lesbian phase just to spite our homophobic mother in high school. She was so convinced that she even dated this girl, Margo, who we later found out was our cousin. She was so mortified, she didn't go to school for week as a means to cleanse herself of any and all thoughts of Margo.

Margo ended up moving away in senior year and we never heard from her since then.

"You know I love you my beautiful, voluptuous sister." I say sweetly. The elevator makes it stop and I almost rush out to escape Wyatt.

"Are you trying to say I'm fat? I've only gained like 6 kilograms, Cassandra." she sounds like she is trying to convince herself.

"No I'm saying you might have just helped me escape from Wyatt. He lives in the same building as Daniel." I try my best not to speak too loud. "Oh my-the same Wyatt who left you because you helped him realise he's into guys?" her gasp almost sucks my ear into the phone.

"Which other Wyatt is there?" I ask whilst trying to hail a cab.
"Never mind him, how are things with Noah and the baby? Do you know the sex yet?"

I finally succeed in hailing a cab, I hop in and tell the driver my destination, "Jill's Café down in Main Street please." I say politely.

"You were saying?" I go back on the phone with Nichole. "Oh yeah, Noah and I are going to Dr. Ferai next week to check, even though I know it's a girl." she says adamantly.

Nichole and I are 3 years apart and somehow she has already found and married the love of her life with a baby on the way. And she somehow still managed to keep studying in the midst of all of that. I envy her to say the least.

"I'll be waiting on my invitation." I am so excited to be an auntie!"

"Cass, you know if I invite you then I have to invite Jayda and Karla." she whines. "It'll be too cramped and stuffy and-"

"Fine, fine. Just...at least let me throw you a gender-reveal party." I sigh.

"Anything for you, sweetheart."

"Alright I need to go for my interview at Jill's. Wish me luck."
I say already feeling the nerves coursing through my veins.

"Good luck and bye." she sings
"Bye, Margo!" I say then hang up, I can already hear all the words she'd be saying to me.
