On October 31st in a small town in Maine was a young Native American girl name Nadine. Nadine loved the idea of Halloween and being scared half to death. She thought it was the perfect night to check out the old abandoned house down the street.
When she entered the the house she heard a weird noise that sounded like a snake hiss and a human cry.
"Who's there?" She heard it again but this time it was closer.
"qey?" Nadine flashed her flashlight in the direction she heard the noise. She seen a giant snake with human eyes. Nadine started to panic and backed up slowly till she felt her back hit something sharp. She felt liquid drip down her back and she instantly knew she cut her back open. She watched the snake slither closer.
"Get away athusoss!" She screamed grabbing the necklace that her great grandmama gave her when she was little. Her great grandmama said it would always ward off evil if it was around her neck so she kept it on all the time.
"Ahhhhhhhhh!" The minute she screamed the snake transformed into a man. The snake man was standing right in front of her. He was very tall, tan skinned, long braided dark brown hair, and many tattoos covering his arms and torso.
"Please don't hurt me!" She put her arms up in front of her like it would ward him off but instead of fleeing, he grabbed her arm with his long fingers and dragged her small weightless body down a hall to a big wooden door.
"Where are you taking me? Please let me go!" She tried to pull her arm away from him but his grip on her arm was so tight she thought her arm would break if she pulled any harder.
"Stop struggling!" He said opening the big door. She took the opportunity to put her feet on both sides of the door way and pulled her arm trying to free herself from his death grip. But nothing worked he just pulled her through the door way effortlessly.
"Ouch your hurting me! Who do you think you are athusossuwiye?" He stopped in his tracks and turned his face towards her.
"I am Athusoss. I belong to the Maliseet's First Nation! Who do you think you are?" He asked in the same tone she asked him. She didn't answer him.
He turned back around and dragged her further into the room.
"Can you please let my arm go?" Nadine was getting tired of being dragged around.
"'Koptunahal or I will kill you right now!" He hollered and shoved Nadine on a couch in the far corner of the room. She started to cry. He transformed back into a snake.
"ENOUGH!" He hissed slithering close to her. She stood up on the couch and jumped off the side of it.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!" She turned and ran out the door, down the hall, and out the front door. He was still slithering after her when she got to the end of the long driveway. She ran as fast as her short legs took her. When she got to her house she ran right to the shed to grab a garden tool to protect herself.
