Hurriedly, I rushed to the library, it was huge, so even if Millie checked here, there was no way she could find me.
"Who are you hiding from, dear?" The librarian, Ms. Longwaffer asked me.
I was unsure whether to tell her who, so I responded with, "Where's the best place to hide here?"
"I don't need to know anymore, follow me, dear." She said, leading me up a flight of spiral stairs, and to the nursery rhyme section.
"I'm sorry, Ms.Longwaffer, this is in the wide-open, where am I supp-" but before I could finish my sentence, Ms. Longwaffer did something or other, and opened up the wall.
"What is this!" I gasped.
"Shh dear, just get in, Millie's almost here."
"How did y-"
"I know everything, Lyla, now hurry! She'll be here any minute now!" Ms.Longwaffer smiled, shoving me behind the bookcase, and sealing it safely behind me.
A few moments later i heard footsteps pounding closer and heavy breathing.
"Ms. L-Longwaffer... do you know where Lyla is?" Millie panted.
"No, dear. I'm afraid I don't. Why do you ask?"
"Nevermind, trying to make this work was a mistake..." Millie sighed, and soon after more pounding occurred until everything was silent.
There was a pang in my chest, Millie had wanted to make this right, and I let her down.
I started pounding on the bookshelf, I had to get out of here, and find Millie.
After a moment or two, Ms.Longwaffer's smiling face pulled open the bookshelf.
"You know, dear, there was a button to open it from the inside." She laughed.
I looked down at the bookshelf, sure enough, there was a yellow button with "OPEN" written in big letters on it. I was too sad and desperate to care, so I pushed past her and raced after Millie.
"She went into the hallway and took a left!" Ms.Longwaffer yelled.
She was dumb enough to go into the girl's bathroom CLOSEST to the library.
I went in, and sure enough, saw Millie sniffling in front of one of the sinks.
She saw me and wiped off the snot and tears from her face.
"Millie, I love you." I began.
