Moving is never easy. It never was. Being in a totally new habitat messes up everything. Leaving what you love and what you see everyday and go to a city where you know nothing and nobody. You have no choice but to socialize, just a little, so you won't feel that lonely.
At least Brandon has his family with him. When his parents told him they were moving, he couldn't believe it. He had to leave his best friends behind, his whole childhood.
They lived in New York and now for his dad's job occasion they had to move to Scotland. Yeah well, it's a quite a change. Brandon was nervous. He had to start school and being in the middle of teenager age, it just made it worse. Not to mention that he is confused right now, and according to his ex-best friend, he is gay. Or bisexual, or something like that. He doesn't have anyone to tell this, to pour his confused heart out. His parents would never understand him, never.
So here they standing in front of their new home. This was new to Brandon. The silence, not the crowded streets. Green grass and not the grey and dirty trash cans. This was... Something really differ. He had a little room upstairs and his parents had one downstairs, which gave him a little personal space. They house was good, it was bigger than the one in New York. He was just excited about the school now. And most importantly, the students in it.
The teachers seemed nice. '-Hey Brandon! It's so nice to have you here, my name is Ellie McStew and I teach english here! Come with me, I will show you your classroom.' Yeah, he had to get used to the thick scottish accents.
When they arrived at the classroom he felt his anxiety hit in. He wanted to go home, now. He took some deep breaths and went to sit down where the teacher told him. He pulled out his phone, pretending like he was doing something really important so noone would look at him like a creep, that he is alone there, noone to talk to. They classroom was full. There were some chatty, pretty girl in the front, a couple in the doorway, some jock guys in the front corner and Brandon had to admit, some of them were quite hot. Especially that one, with the grey streak in his hair, his piercing blue eyes, his muscular shoulders. It was like he was unreal. Then the bell rang. "-Hey class, please be silent! Take your seats ladies and gentleman.'-the teacher said, a book in his hands. '-So we have a new arrival with us today. Brandon. Please introduce yourself to the class.'-he said and Brandon took a sharp breath. He didn't wanna do this. '-Hi, I'm Brandon, Brandon Flynn. I'm 17 years old, and I just moved here from erm New York.'-he looked around to see smiling students looking at him. Maybe they didn't see him as a creep at all. He saw that boy with the grey streak watching him, or more like checking him out, his pen sightly in his mouth, chewing it with a smirk on his lips. Brandon couldn't help but blush before giving the teacher a nod and a smile.
In the break a girl and a boy came up to him, to introduce themselves and to offer him to help with anything. Their names were Brie and Christian. '-So, can we help you with anything?'-Brie asked. '-Can you tell me some names?'-Brandon asked and they nodded and smiled. To be honest, Brandon didn't really pay attention to most of the names, he just had to know his name. '-And right there, that's Richard. Madden.'-Christian said. Brandon just looked in his direction with his eyes wide open. He looked flawless, perfect.
After school, Brie and Christian showed him around the town and went to a coffee shop. Brie was American and Christian was from Spain, but he lived here since he was 4. Maybe that was why they decided to help him out, cause they knew how it feels to be in a new school with completly new people. '-So Brandon, why did you guys move here?'-Brie asked taking a sip of her latte. '-My dad, he was offered a really promising job here and well it turns out maybe they can find a job for my mom there too.'-Brandon said. '-Oh, I see. What kind of job?'-Brie asked. '-It's super complicated but they will have to take night shifts eventually, so it seems pretty serious.'-Brandon said. '-Night shifts means girls, mate.'-Christian chuckled and pushed him in the shoulder cheekly. '-Or boys...'-Brie mumbled. '-What?'-Brandon asked. '-Oh come on, I saw how you looked at Richard.'-Brie said. '-Oh, I didn't mean to be rude mate, of course night shifts means girls and boys, and whatever gender you want.'-he said. '-I am not gay.'-Brandon chuckled. '-Whatever you say.'-Brie rolled her eyes. '-Okay, but if you were gay, or just bisexual, who is hotter, me or Brie?'-Christian asked. Brandon looked at both of them. Maybe he was really gay? '-I...'-Brandon tried to say something. '-It's okay, Brandon, but please note this, whenever you need to talk to someone, we are here. Okay?'-Brie said. Brandon nodded. '-But Richard is pretty hot.'-Brie smiled. '-Excuse me?'-Christian said. '-Oh fuck off Chris.'-Brie said.
They talked and they headed home. The town was pretty small, they lived close to each other. When Brandon got home, he was surprised that his dad was nowhere to be seen. '-Hi mom. Where's dad?'-he asked. '-Night-shifts already, baby.'-his mom said. '-Already?'-Brandon asked. '-But it gives us good money and the job is super exciting, for both of us.'-his mom said. '-Okay... Do you have to go too?'-he asked. '-No, not now. But eventually I'll have to.'-she said. Brandon gave her a little smile and headed to his room. It was unfamiliar still, but well furnished and cosy. He will get used to it.
Before he fell asleep he texted his New York friends, like they care, that he is well and the school is not that bad.
It's really not that bad. There are nice people in it. And there is Richard.
