Love sometimes comes like a dream and leaves like a nightmare

-Unknown-

"Hold it right there," Lottie told me as she threw the can of hair spray on my bed. "You're going out with one of the finest guys in the school tonight. The least you can do is try to look presentable."

To look presentable for him? It was just Dante. He had no affect on me but goosebumps, and it wasn't even the good kind. Or so I kept telling myself.

"Yeah, no." I laughed incredulously. "That's ridiculous. I'd rather go for Team Charm Girls."

Lottie shook her head, "How are you going to lose it at this rate?? Don't you want to tell worthy stories to your grandkids?"

I shook my head. At this rate Dante would get us into another car accident. Not that the last one had been valid or anything but it had felt pretty realistic. Just the thought had my body trembling with nothing but fear.

"Are you ready to look yourself in the mirror?" Lottie went on excitedly. "Your black hair is so beautiful and it matches with this dress I just got but it looks way better on you. It shows him some of your legs. God knows you have the sexiest pair. Let's trade?"

I shook my head, smiling. "I told you doing sports does magical things for your body."

She playfully choked on her saliva. "You, sports?! That's as hard as trying to believe angels and vampires and all those sexy werewolves exist."

"Maybe not angels and werewolves."

It was crazy to believe in vampires but Dante just didn't fit into the category of a normal teenage guy. He was too different. The bad kind. How he had even gotten me to agree going out with him was far beyond me. Just remembering the way I had felt when I had so willingly agreed to go out with him tonight caused goosebumps to go up my arms and legs.

And it was why I had lead it to believe that he could control minds which was insane, but I also blamed Lottie because earlier she had forced me to watch Twilight with her.

Edward's mind reading power had just made me think about mind control and mind control had caused me to think about Dante and it lead to thinking about Dante being an actual vampire.

It was completely insane! But it also answered all of my unanswered questions, and it was easy to blame it all on him being a vampire. However insane it sounded.

"Please tell me Twilight didn't get to you." Lottie teased. "I know we were addicts when we were younger over it but damn Ash, some things never change."

I smiled but I didn't say anything in return. Lottie was the type of blonde with wavy hair and perfect blue eyes that made Barbie jealous. I often thought about the fact that she would be popular if she hadn't had me to deal with in our Freshmen year. She fit in with the perfect tan freaks and cheerleaders quite well, but as my mother claimed, we were glued to each other since we had first met and bonded over the same tank top we wore on the first day of school.

"Okay, go take a look." She turned me towards the direction of my bathroom and I thought about calling Dante and cancelling, but it was as if this strong pull was refusing to let me even want to cancel. Much less actually call.

I sighed but went into the restroom only to frown at what I saw. The reflection in the mirror was that of a girl who looked distraught and confused. But most importantly you could see the fear playing in her eyes. Her black hair fell almost down to her hips, the tips just barely curled so beautifully. Her lips were tainted with red lipstick and she wore a black short dress that barely covered her bottom and showed off most of her cleavage.

Sadly, that girl was me. Even if I didn't know who she was, she was me. "Do you not like it?" Lottie asked as she had came in behind me. "I think Dante will love it."

If only she knew. What would she think? Would she still be helping me get dressed for our date if she knew what was going on? I wanted so badly to tell her. But I sounded crazy.

It was all so impossible.

"You would tell me right?" She asked, her voice gentle and just barely above a whisper. I glanced at her through the reflection of the mirror and observed the way concern swam in her eyes. "If Dante was forcing you to go out with him tonight. You'd tell me, wouldn't you?"

I turned and pulled her in for a tight embrace, unsure of what I could say. She knew me too well. Although I hadn't known her our whole life, it was like she knew me more than I knew myself. "Of course." I whispered, feeling guilty that I lied. But what could I say? "Since when have I ever kept something from you?"

Lottie sighed with relief and pulled back from our hug. "You're stronger than you think Ash. If you put your mind to it, you can do anything." She smiled softly and I thought about her words as the doorbell rang.

Dante was here. We were gonna be alone and my parents were gone and they didn't know where I was gonna be nor who I would be with. I plastered a smile onto my face, but this caused Lottie to frown.

She knew something was up. It was why she asked that question, but I didn't need her getting involved into whatever this was. It was something that I felt was far too dangerous for her.

"First date nerves." I found myself telling her. "I'll call you after this, uh, date."

She pulled her shoes off and I followed her out of my bathroom. "I'm actually going to stay in and catch up on the latest episodes of Vampire Diaries. Your parents are out of town, right? We can have a sleep over after your date and we can talk about it." She blew me a kiss and sat down on my bed. "Have fun and call me if you need back up."

I nodded but grabbed my cellphone and wallet and headed downstairs. Each step felt like I was only getting closer and closer to death, but it was better than taking Lottie down with me.

When I reached the door, I held the doorknob in my hand for what must have been a century. It was no lie that I didn't want to go out tonight, but maybe I could find out more about him. See if he really was a vampire as I had concluded just hours ago.

I summoned up all the courage I could muster and opened the door, my eyes widening at the sight of Seth standing there with his hands calmly in his pockets.

This could not be happening.
