MOTHER ALWAYS SCOLDED her for overthinking everything. Maybe she was right. But something was so eerie and ominous about that stupid fortune cookie.
4:00AM — You will meet a new friend, an unexpected visitor.
What kind of deranged fortune is that? Surely the cookie factory made a mistake—slipped a mistyped fortune into their marketable batch.
But as the clock ticked closer to that godforsaken time, her breathing hitched.
Then, 4:01AM. Alas, she was safe. No surprise visits today.
Until a voice, hoarse and throaty, emerged from beneath the bed.
"Didn't think I'd forget about you—Did you, friend?"
