Thomas awoke with a start when he heard his window open, watching as Maddie let herself in. He glanced at the time and became miffed. Why was his friend here at this hour?

"What are you doing here? It's late," hissed Thomas, his gaze returning to the intruder.

Maddie smiled, "We're going out, Rodriguez."

Thomas stared at her before he rolled over, nestling into his warm blankets, "You're crazy, go home."

Thomas closed his eyes, positive that Maddie would leave but he was very wrong. She, instead, ripped the blankets away from him, much to his dismay, "Come on, Tommy. You never do anything fun, so get your butt out of bed and let's go. I won't take no for an answer."

Thomas reached out for his blankets but Maddie was intent playing Keep Away, so he sat up and rubbed his eyes.

"I have fun," protested Thomas, "I read adventure books."

Maddie grimaced at what he said, "Reading is fun, but you live your life too vicariously, Thomas. You're always telling me how much you wished you had an adventure yourself but whenever the opportunity arises, you push it away."

As much as he hated to admit it, she was right. She often was.

"But why now?" whined Thomas, watching as a small smile went onto his friend's face.

"I want to show you something and it's very important, please?" asked Maddie.

Thomas stayed silent for a moment, feeling his resolve break, "Fine. Let me get dressed."

Maddie grinned brightly and waited as Thomas put on his warmest clothes, "Let's go."

She climbed out his window, waiting for him on the other side. Thomas approached the window but hesitated, unsure. He looked up at night sky and was surprised to see how beautiful it looked, how nice the cool breeze felt as it brushed against his warm cheeks.

"You coming?" questioned Maddie.

"Yeah, give me a second," Thomas awkwardly clambered out of his window, nearly face planting onto the ground.

Maddie stifled her laughter behind her hand but helped him up, "This way, Tommy."

Thomas followed her to the motorcycle parked on the curb, "We're going on that?"

He got a helmet in response. Thomas grumbled as he put the helmet on, "My hair's gonna look like a box after this."

Maddie giggled and waited for him to get on behind her before she started the engine, racing off down the streets. Thomas grabbed onto her for dear life as his heart pounded with excitement at how fast they were going, it was like they were flying. They left the town and continued down the highway, underneath only the endless night sky. Thomas whooped with pure joy as Maddie laughed.

When they eventually returned to Thomas's home around 2, and Thomas was in his room, he paused before he looked at Maddie from his bedroom window.

"Hey, what was so important that you wanted to show me?"

Maddie simply smiled as she answered, "How to really live life, Thomas."
