His reply was immediate, as Magnus expected it would be. It never failed. He smirked and tapped on Alec's number.

Good evening, Magnus. It's a pleasure hearing from you. - AL

I bet. -MB

I was hoping to continue our business arrangement, if you're willing. - AL

Business arrangement? Is that what this was? Magnus smiled and shook his head. Forever the professional, this one.

Depends. Is it just business?' -MB

Alec took a mighty long time to respond to that. Magnus watched in amusement as the 'Typing...' message came and went several times. He imagined Alec racking his brain trying to find a response that sounded professional and not like blatant flirting. Magnus grinned.

Would you prefer it to be more casual? - AL

Well then. Magnus quirked a brow.

Would it be inappropriate if I did? - MB

A pause.

No. -AL

In that case, how about drinks? Then we can talk business. - MB

That can be arranged.- AL

Magnus felt a thrill surge through his body as he typed the words.

Does tomorrow night at eight sound good? -MB

That sounds perfect. Eight it is then. -AL

Can't wait. ;) -MB

Magnus lowered his phone and looked to Catarina, who was eyeing him from the couch adjacent to him, eager to hear the news.

"Well?" She said. Magnus's lips pulled into a half smile.

"Looks like I have a date."

****

"Well?" Isabelle leaned over the back of the couch, trying to get a peek at Alec's phone from over his shoulder. "What did he say?" Alec finished texting Magnus and locked his screen. Isabelle pouted.

"I'm meeting him at eight tomorrow night." He said.

"Oooh, so it's a date then?" Alec pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.

"It's not a date. He invited me to come for drinks and browse the rest of his catalogue. That's it." Isabelle gave him a look.

"Whoa, wait a minute, what?!" Isabelle barked out a laugh of pure amazement. "He invited you for DRINKS? Since when do you have drinks with your 'business arrangements'? Where's his studio?" Alec didn't want to answer that. He wanted to spare himself the pain. But Isabelle would never leave him alone if he didn't.

"At his apartment." She stared at him with an open mouthed grin. Alec cringed.

"He invited you to his apartment? Alone? So you can sip wine and gaze at artwork?" Isabelle burst out laughing. "Either he really wants you to buy his stuff, or he really wants to get in your pants. It sounds like he's setting this up as a date. Alec, you can't be that oblivious."

"I'm not... I... Ugh, forget it." Alec groaned. It didn't matter which way he tried to put it, or how much he tried to convince her that this was strictly professional, Isabelle was never going to believe him.

And frankly, he didn't either.

"My God. He reeled you in hook line and sinker. I'm gonna have to ask this guy for some tips. That was smooth." Isabelle continued laughing.

"Are you done?" Alec scowled. He was good at that.

"Not even close," She said as she calmed down, "but I'll cut you some slack. For now." She walked around the couch and motioned for him to scoot. He slid over and she sat next to him, resting her head against his shoulder. They sat like that for a while, enjoying each other's company.

"I just want you to be happy. You know that right?" She said after a spell.

Alec didn't say anything. He didn't have to. He put an arm around her and pulled her close.

"Just be careful, okay?" She kissed his cheek. "And Alec?"

"Hmm?"

"I really hope he doesn't break your heart." She said. Alec rolled his eyes and smiled.

"And why's that?"

"Because I'm too pretty for jail."
