My beautiful friend
So full of smiles
You laughed without worry
Smiled without tears
We were crazy
But had so much fun
We didn’t care what they thought
It was just you and me
On top of the world
Hakuna Matata
No worries for the rest of our lives
But now you’ve changed
No longer that same happy girl
Changed by society
Limitations, regulations
A perfect picture of humanity
That you tried to uphold
But the ‘perfect’ are never perfect
For it is our imperfections that make us perfect
You tried to change
To be what you thought you had to be
Pretty, and for that you covered your beautiful face in makeup
You had to talk the right way
Say the right things
To be accepted by society
But what kind of society is this
It is all made up
All in your head
Nobody is making anyone change
That is only the perceived outlook on
Perfection
But you are fine the way you used to be
Don’t you know this?
You don’t have to change to be perfect
For people to love and accept you
If they don’t see the real you
Under all the powder
They are not real either
They aren’t real friends
For if they cannot accept your true self
They have no right to be with you
And you should not try to please them
People will love you for you
The real you
Not a walking, talking Barbie doll
And if all else fails
I will
I will love you for who you are
And who I know is still inside that plastic body
All that is needed is for her to come out
Out from under the short skirts and pouted lips
That girl hidden away out of fear
Fear of judgement and scorn
Do not fear
Do not worry
She is welcome in my heart
But only if she comes out to search for me
Only if she comes out and shows her heart
Shows her heart, once more
To the world
