i stared at the grandfather clock that seemed to be towering over me, just as i had been for the past three hours. it was completely silent in the house, except for the tick....tick....tick.... of the broken clock. everything was silent, everything was still—even my thoughts. if the clock worked properly, maybe i would know what the time really was. but instead, the clock seemed to show no mercy, as the crack in the bulging face of the clock seemed to grow ever bigger. i knew the glass would completely shatter one day, although i refused to think about why the grandfather clock had been broken in the first place.

the longer i sat there, in that same spot in front of the grandfather clock, the more i felt my sanity slipping away. tick, tock. tick, tock. the longer i stayed there, sitting in front of the looming figure before me, the more i felt that my time was running out. tick, tock. tick, tock. the longer i stared at the clock, it's broken face staring back at me, the more i knew—it would all come to an end, soon.

tick, tock. tick, tock.
