She pushed Jodie away from her body and made a run for it, leaving her non-athletic friend behind. Jodie tried so hard to catch up to her paces but failed as she tripped on her own foot because of panic and fear, plus because of her wobbly steps.
“Rachel!” she called for her, asking for help, or just to wait for her. The creature is a few feet away from her, and starting to get closer by the second. She halted her steps, looked back and noticed that Jodie sprained her foot, giving her a hard time to get up, or even move at the moment.
Jodie tried to crawl away from the creature, panic and fear evident in her form. She was screaming her name over and over, but she just stood there, once again, thinking if she would just run and leave her behind, since now that she was sprained, she would be nothing but a liability to her.
She started to move back, her friend, noticing her thoughts, screamed louder, eyes begging for help, wishing that she would be always there for her, no matter what happens, just like her promise when they first met.
Jodie was the very first person who never judged her, who never criticized her. She was always there and had never given up to motivate her to study and she never looked at her like some kind of cold-blooded delinquent who can sleep well at night after killing someone.
Jodie never ended their friendship despite her parent’s protests and whatever other people told her.
Jodie was the only friend she ever had.
“Dammit, Jodie.” She snarled, more likely directly at the creature.
She charged at full speed with a battle cry as she slid between its legs. When completely behind him, she stopped by raising her body upward by the use of her arms then giving a sharp 180-degree turn with a powerful kick, slamming its body to the wall hard.
Its impact is hard enough to crack an average human’s skull, but unfortunately, this was a human, and it survived.
It took a while before the monster recollected itself, giving Rachel enough time to grab and carry her friend on her back, and she ran, fast.
---
What did she ever do to deserve this? Is puking her lunch to stay slim a sin? But everyone does it! That delinquent Rachel Morto might even be doing it too, since she’s so sexy, like the guys her grade says.
She was just doing what she normally does after the bell rings, puking everything she ate. She was about to leave the girls’ washroom when she saw the utilities eating each other by the building’s entrance.
She closed the washroom door quickly, hoping that they were too preoccupied with their ‘meal’ and didn’t notice her. Locking the door, she felt like puking again, only in a whole different reason.
---
Running down the stairs, she went into an abrupt halt seeing one of the utility zombies roaming the ground floor. Crap, they’re trapped.
She turned her head towards Jodie and put a finger on her lips, Jodie nodded in return, understanding the instruction. She kept her mouth shut and tried to avoid whimpering when her sprained ankle sways uncomfortably as her friend retreats back upstairs. Making a sharp turn, Rachel halts, to see the same creature she attacked from before, coming towards their direction.
It was still moaning and walking groggily, this time, with its face distorted, from Rachel’s assault.
They were trapped between the creature and the staircase. She can’t fight the creature, with her friend hoisted behind her back, she’ll surely be a disadvantage. So she prayed to whoever is listening and made a mad run downstairs, her footsteps echoing throughout the empty hallway, the utility zombies stopping from their activity and sees them in the process.
