Chapter Two -

I'm a what?

I DREAMT THAT I WOKE up in the middle of an empty park except for one girl sitting next to me with shoulder length blonde hair and icy blue eyes and my bag which wasn't on my back anymore. The girl was staring at me suspiciously also as if she expected me to suddenly jump up and flee from her.

Then I realized I wasn't dreaming.

I actually was in an empty park (the park in front of our house by the looks of it) lying down next to that French girl from the crossing. And she was staring at me suspiciously almost as if she.. well you know the rest so I'm not going to bother.

I pushed myself up into a sitting position and winced as my head started throbbing now that it wasn't resting on the ground. It felt like someone had taken a hammer and banged it a hundred times on my head repeatedly leaving it sore and bruised.

I rested my head on the trunk of a tree and the pounding instantly ceased to a dull throb. Then I turned to face the French girl who was still staring at me suspiciously for some reason almost as if... Okay yeah you get the point.

I would've gladly accepted a concerned look from her, even though, she was a complete stranger. Or maybe an 'Are you okay?' but no, she had to settle for a suspicious look almost - okay! I'll stop!

"Um, what happened?" I asked her while rubbing my sore head with one hand before I realized that she didn't speak English, "Oh, um, tu peux-"

"I speak English too, it's fine," she replied without even a tiny French accent which surprised me. I had thought she was completely French like the majority of people in Geneva.

She moved her eyes so that she was staring directly at me, "You shouldn't have done that."

Oh god, was I going to get lectured my Miss Goody Two Shoes here?

"Yeah, I know. I just thought that the lights were broken so I thought I should just go for it. Plus that car came out of nowhere! And it was speeding! The speed limit sign clearly said-"

"No, you idiot!"

I immediately stopped rambling and looked at her questioningly.  Not a day goes by without me being called an idiot either at school or home but it's not that often I get called an idiot by a complete stranger that I just met.

"Uh what do you mean?" I asked.

"I wasn't talking about road rules, I was talking about how you broke the number one rule of every Elementalist! You stopped time! You aren't allowed to use your powers in the middle of the street in plain sight of everyone! It's meant to be kept a secret!"

I stared at her blankly as my brain tried to process the nonsense which  had just poured out of her mouth, "I'm sorry what?"

She sighed, "Did you hit your head that hard? You know what I'm talking about! You broke the number one rule of Elementalists and now you're trying to deny that it ever happened."

By now I was pretty certain that this girl had lost her marbles. Or maybe she'd been watching too many movies and thought this was real. I had more pressing matters to solve including why I had literally frozen in the middle of the road. I was certain that I hadn't imagined it, I could remember the coldness in my fingertips as ice had started forming around it. I didn't know what had happened but I wanted to go home and figure it out instead of wasting my time here.
