The phone buzzed loudly. Dahlia shuddered and looked away from the computer screen. The glasses slid to the tip of her nose threatening to hit the table. Another message lit the screen causing her to sigh heavily and finally close the laptop. The number of unread messages hit thirty-seven, making Dahlia regret the moment she shared her number with Anna. Two clicks and the number were being dialed.
"Are you slaving away on your laptop again?"
Dahlia put the phone on loudspeaker and rolled her eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes at me young lady!" the phone continued yelling. "You were supposed to call me an hour ago. Are you even ready for tonight?"
"Anna..." Dahlia cried sulkily. "I'm almost ready."
"Oh really?" the sarcasm dripped from Anna's voice. "So, if I was nearby and decided to pop in earlier, I would see you "almost ready"?"
Dahlia sat up nervously. "How nearby are you?"
The doorbell rang. "Damn."
"Open the damn door woman." The call ended just to be replaced by the banging on the door.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Dahlia yelled running to the door. The door swung open allowing a tall blonde storm inside, pushing everything out of her way. Anna looked at Dahlia up and down with a cynical smile. "Oh yes, you are absolutely ready to hit the club girl."
Dahlia cleared her throat and tagged on her loose sweatpants.
"Just give me a minute," she sighed and walked to the bedroom. Anna followed closely behind.
"So, were you working?" the blonde emphasized as her ran her hand through her short hair. Anna dropped on the bed and watched as Dahlia quickly roamed her wardrobe for something suitable to wear.
"Yeah, I had to finalize a couple of contracts and send a few emails."
"Girl, you are working too hard, haven't your vacation already started?"
Dahlia nodded, finally pulling on a plain black bodycon dress. She quickly applied some make up and done her hair up.
"How long have we known each other?" Anna asked out loud. "Four years of uni, then three more years, total of seven years and all seven years all you have done was work, work, work." She stood up and gently pushed Dahlia away from the mirror. Anna took a pose and winked at herself. "When was the last time you took a vacation?"
"I'd rather not remember the last time I took a vacation." Dahlia cut her off abruptly. Anna fell silent.
"Yeah, I'm sorry, that was insensitive of me. Ready to go?"
Dahlia nodded and grabbed her bag. She quickly threw her keys and phone in and exited the flat. Taxi took them to the club entrance, where a large queue was already forming.
"Come on Lea, let's party like it's 1999!"
With that Anna grabbed onto her hand dragged her to the end of the queue. The night was going to be long, but the following day was going to be longer.
