Chapter 2. Farewell
“What!!??” Carol said in shock. Meanwhile Glardia’s jaw dropped in shock as well. It was obvious to Mrs. Jones that her kids didn’t take the news quite well.
Mrs. Jones decided to tell them the news at night after putting Emily to bed, thinking it would be a good time. But that didn’t turn out as well as she thought it might.
“We’re moving to a different country???” Glardia asked the obvious. Ensuring that she heard what she heard.
“Yes Glardia. We have no other choice,” Her mum stated.
“Choice?? What is the world gonna end and we’re gonna all die if we don’t move out??? Or is it that you’re too weak to face the fact that dad is gone and you can’t live here because he isn’t here! I mean for crying out loud his dead and moving away doesn’t mean it’ll bring him back!” carol was now angry and furious and Mrs. Jones was now hurt at what he just said to her. A few minutes ago when his mum told him that she has some news to tell them he wasn’t expecting this at all.
Glardia sat there in silence, knowing that even if she wanted to say something she can’t because Carol now is angry which means DO NOT INTURRUPT.
“I don’t see any better reason as to why we have to leave. Unless we are secretly migrants then that’s a different story” Carol said sarcastically.
Mrs. Jones cleared her throat “its was written in your dads will”
“That we’re secretly migrants?” Carol and Glardia asked at the same time.
“no, no” Mrs. Jones shook her heard. “In his will he wrote for me to sell this house and use the money to go back to living in Australia” Mrs. Jones explained.
“what? Why would he say that? You already have a job here. And I have my own plans of going to uni here. And he knew that, so why would he say that?” Carol asked.
“Because this house was part of the contract that your dad had with his business. This house is the whole reason why we moved from Australia to here from the start. But now that your father is gone that means the contract will end soon, which means either the business will take it from us in a month if we don’t sell it or we sell it and get the money.” She explained.
Carol kind of understood now, but he still continued to ask “what about your job here?”
“Don’t worry, if we sell the house, the money will help cover us while we settle in and while I get a job. Plus we will be living with my brother (your uncle) which will buy us extra time to settle in and register both of you in school and uni and Emily in Day care”
“I can’t go with you mum.” Carol said
“Why???” she didn’t tell him that he has no choice, knowing that he has legally the right to choose because he is 19.
“Because.. I’m already in uni” he said cautiously.
“What??” Glardia and Mrs. Jones said together. Now it was their turn to say something at the same time.
“Well...” Carol scratched the back of his head.
“Explain” Mrs. Jones said impatiently.
“I started uni as soon as I finished highschool. That’s why I’m always out and I only come home on weekends” he explained. But his mum was still waiting for an answer. “What about the job you told me you were doing during the week? You lied to me? Did your dad know about this?” she asked.
