As I wait in my room, I think to myself, 16. Wow. I am not ready for this, I walk back and forth inside my bed room. I can do this, I can do this! So I step out those doors to find my friends: Sarah, Tim, Emma, Jake and someone else. It's the guy from my science class. Kieran Wethers.
All thoughts of Kieran were pushed away as Sarah and Emma started singing, "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Ashley. Happy birthday to you!"
Tim and Jake say in unison, "hip hip." The girls then yell with great enthusiasm, "hurray!" They do this three times until Sarah just couldn't hold it in anymore and jumped on top of me. The night went on like every other birthday I've had. Stupid party games and lots of laughing.
As the hours went by he was still there. Not in a creepy way though. I guess he was waiting for my friends to leave.
Interested, I ask, "hey, why is Kieran here?"
Tim says, "oh, he said he wanted to give you something."
Emma then says in a gossipy way, "so creepy, right? Apparently it's a small box."
When they all left Kieran was still there so I walk to the deck (because that's where he is standing) to him to see the most handsomest face I've ever seen. Those sea green eyes with light brown hair just dazzles me.
"Hello Ash? Are you listening?" His voice is like melted chocolate.
Oh no I tuned out! Crap!
"Sorry I kinda blacked out for a minute. Start again?" I mumble the
last bit.
"Happy birthday," Kieran says as his eyes twinkle in the moonlight.
"Thanks" I awkwardly reply.
"I came to give you this," Kieran passes me a tiny blue velvet box.
"Bit too early for engagement don't you think? We barely know each other." I tease.
He chuckles and says, "No. It's not even a ring, it's a necklace."
I open it to see an almost magical silver necklace with a beautiful blue topaz. This just happens to be my favourite colour. Coincidence? I don't think so.
"It's beautiful!" I exclaim.
"I can find something even more beautiful." He quietly says. But I can hear it. Is he talking about me?
"Did you just say I am beautiful?"
"I can't lie to you Ashley."
A pause fills the air to break it Kieran suggests, "Do want to go out some time? To a movie or something?"
"I would be delighted."
"Goodnight Kieran Wethers."
"Goodnight Ashley Mulluns."
I slept peacefully that night just dreaming of the days to come...
