"The steepest mountain in the world is...".
"Hakone!".
Two college students passes by the riverbank and saw a small crew of athletes gathered.
"Idiots", the one with pinks hair sighed. "Heh~ looks like someone is already dead", the blonde one peaked and saw someone lying with his face flat on the grasses.
Kansei University
Cultural Arts and Literature Club office"Nishimiya Sayuri, 18 years old. I graduated from Touo High. I'm currently first year taking up literature as my major", Sayuri informed while delinquently seated on top of the table. The officers were shocked that they haven't thought of a reply. She was truly extreme. Her dress isn't even an inch above the knee. The way she sat isn't lady like at all. Good thing she wore shorts under her skirt. Considering the nature of the club, she doesn't seems to fit in. Plus, regardless of her age, she's taller than anyone inside the room.
"Good morning, officers. I'm Mikami Rai. I also graduated from Touo High. First year sociology student", Rai raised her hand and pulled Sayuri to stand beside her. Thankfully, someone was brave enough to correct her.Sayuri looked around the traditional set up of an office. The papers are piled up neatly and there are just few calligraphy posted on the walls. "Tch, it's too tacky", Sayuri clicked her tongue. The president fell shivers on his spine. He cleares his throat at raised his eyeglasses. "Nice to meet you, first years. I'm Yashiro Ryota. I'm the president of the club. If you have any questions, you can always ask me", Ryota smiled. "I'd like to be an officer as well. Can you appoint me?", Sayuri slammed her left hand on the table. The officers flinched.
Corridor
"That was an easy appointment for you", Rai chuckled. "He's fortunate enough that I didn't ask for the presidency", Sayuri flipped her hair.
"Sayuri, geez you're really...", Rai stopped when she saw Sayuri's eyes focused into something in the bulletin board. "Are you going to sign in to part time jobs? I can go with you", Rai volunteered. "You don't have to keep following me. It's not that people can bully you around here. We've graduated from that", Sayuri flicked her forehead
Mikami Rai's POV
Nope.
Sayuri isn't product of a dysfunctional family. She wasn't abuse as well. Her parents doesn't push her to her limits as well. In fact, they love her so much that they allowed her to take whatever course she likes to finish. Knowing her, she could be a doctor or even a lawyer in the future. For some reason, she decided to attend Kansei and enroll in Literature major.
I didn't really chose this school because of her. We're not that close in High School. Just because of one incident, I decided to follow her around until we graduate. My father is a sociology instructor and he's been talking about it since I was young. That's the reason why I took interest in it. I ask Sayuri if she thinks it suits me.
"It's your choice. Who cares if I say that you suck at understanding people?".
I just laughed it off.
Sayuri is sharped tongue and will tell whatever she would like to.
"I'm hungry. Let's go eat", Sayuri led the way to the cafeteria. This is far too different with what we have in High School. "Be careful with what you eat. You'd end up in the clinic if you just go around eating everything you want",Sayuri enumerated those which I'm not allowed to eat.
I notice the stares boys are giving her. They're all staring at her fair long legs. "Sayuri", I called out her name. Geez. I wonder what excuse she'll give after I tell her about dress codes. "I think you can dress down tomorrow?", I whispered and gulped when I saw her staring down at me like a bug. She gave a smirk and shrugged. "I'm just going to give a scare to those little lambs in my department to let them know whose the boss. I should tell you the same. Starting tomorrow, stop dressing like an old hag", she grabbed on my jacket. I just sighed in defeat and nodded.
Old hag, you say?
Sayuri would always comment on everything about me.
What are those shoes? I have some money from my part time. Come on, let's buy you some decent shoes.
You're not even worthy standing beside me.
Stop stuttering when you're giving a speech.
Stop apologizing!
Keep you chin up!
Are you a kid? Why do you have these plushies hang around your bag?!
But none of her comments feels offensive at all. Because I know, she's just trying to care for others but no everyone understands her language.
At one time, she was even called by the teachers because they thought she was bullying me. I stood up for her. Since that time, she would always call me to spend lunch with her.
"Why are you spacing out?", Sayuri crossed her legs as she sat in front of me. The table is wide enough to fit a group but it's just the two of us. It's not saddening at all.
After a while, a twin came looking for somewhere to sit. They look exactly the same. It would be a pain if they are in the same department and class. "Joji! I found a seat for us", one of them shouted and pointed at our table. You'd rather not. I peek into Sayuri and I know she's already formulating how to scare the two away.
"Can we share table with you?", Jota asked. Sayuri looked around and saw how filled the cafeteria is. "Suit yourself", she nodded and carried her trashes. Are we done here? I finished my food and followed Sayuri as she walked away.
I tilted my head. "What?", Sayuri seems to have eyes on her back. "Nothing", I smiled.
Third person's POV
StreetIt's time to go home. Unlike High School, they don't get to spend the whole day in the school. There's no vacancy for the shop that Sayuri would like to work. Maybe she'd look for other shops. A cafe shop would be fine but it will really eat my time. Also, they require to be nice to the customer. What a drag.
3:00 pm.
Oh, she still have 6 hours before that old man's curfew. She stopped by a post and saw a paper hanging.
Translator. 40,000 yen/ book.
Her eyes brightened and called the number right and there.
"I can start right away. I am quiet confident of my capabilities. You can proofread it and fire me if you don't like it", Sayuri spoke so highly. The boss liked her tenacity and decided to see what she got. "I'll be sending the script tonight", the voice informed even without proper interview.
Chikuseiso
The door opened. A black head freshman is puzzled why a lady opened the entrance door. Their eyes met. "Who?", they both said in unison.
"This is Chikuseiso. Is there anyone you want to talk to?", Kakeru averted her stares when Sayuri started to remove her shoes. A fan slapped on the back of her head. "You're entering the wrong house. Plus, what's with your clothes?! You went to school, right? Why is it that you seems to come from a club?", Tanizaki, the landlord scolded her and grabbed her to the other house.
Kakeru was all puzzled. That was quiet intense.
