I came up with the idea for this story about two years ago and never acted upon it now. You guys will be spooked...maybe.
Mortal Kombat 11. Ever since the reveal trailer hit the internet in December 2018 I was so excited. Not only did I download the 21 Savage song used (give me a break it did not appear to be officially released) I literally replayed every single MK game that came before it, even the garbage ones like Mythologies and Special Forces. Even if those two specific games made me want to shoot myself the more I played them, it was worth it. I also re-watched the movies! Even if Annihilation made me want to set myself on fire after bathing in gasoline, I still could not contain my hype!
But then I ran into a problem when the game came out...I became broke. I had recently been fired from my job-apparently staying home and replaying MKX instead of going to work was a bad idea, who knew-and had to pay most of my last paycheck to make sure the landlord didn't kick me out. I was a bit stripped for cash-I literally only had like eleven bucks in the bank-and I so badly want to play the game. I just couldn't afford to drop sixty dollars on a single game. I actually went through the stages of grief and everything.
Maybe my ex-girlfriend had a point when she said that I loved a yellow pixelated ninja more than her, as I did not go through any stages of grief over her when she left me.
While looking though my emails while trying to see if any the jobs I applied to had responded back yet I found this one email from Ebay. It's one of those "based on your interest" emails. At first maybe it was recommending me more merchandise I already have or some hilarious bootlegs based on MK stuff, but one of the things stood out to me. It was a copy of Mortal Kombat 11, new and still with the plastic wrapping, but for a ridiculous price-only five bucks!
I could not believe it! I immediately clicked on the listing. I tried to find out more about the seller. This was the only thing they were selling, and all of the feedback was negative. The listing also had an odd description: "New Mortal Kombat 11 (friendship version) in boox, please buy my children hungry they ned foood"
There was something else in the description but I had not bothered reading it. Just the idea that I could get the game was tempting enough. Sure it seemed sketchy, especially with the "Friendship Edition" and the broken English, but it was a US seller and cheap. After thinking really hard for about less than a minute I decided I really needed the game so I bought it. There went the one Hungry Man I was going to eat for this week, but it will be worth it.
After only two days I got the disk. Man I could not tell you how excited I was to put it in my PlayStation. I ripped the plastic wrap like some kind of beat. I then cracked open the case, ready to breathe in that new game smell. I never noticed how weird that sounds until I just said it out loud.
When I opened the case I saw a burnable disk that had "Mortal Kombat 11: Friendship Edition" in black sharpie written on it. That phrase was also on the listing and odd...Friendship Edition...didn't hear about that one. Maybe it's a new edition where they put out where you can do friendships just like in two and three! I personally prefer literally butchering characters but I like the idea.
So I start up the game, expecting some kind of short cut-scene like in X...except there isn't one. It's just the menu screen asking what you want to do. Some else seems off-it doesn't have the dark, stormy look of some other MK games or what I had seen in YouTube videos. Instead it was in front of a bright sky with clouds shaped like flowers and puppies.
"Odd..." I actually said out loud.
I don't care for story modes (I mean, who plays fighting games for their stories) plus that's where the fatalities are. I always wondered why you could just do that in story mode, it's not like it'd mess with the story or anything.
