You could remember this day like it had just happened an hour ago. You sat on your bed, ill with fever. The walls were a bright pink and a picture from your sixth birthday was hanging on the wall. A maid came in to turn on your TV, and then left in a hurry. A news report played, and a picture of a girl was shown near the familiar news reporter. Her hair was black, and her skin dark. She wore a school's uniform and carried a small purse. You thought of her being your friend, then you fell asleep.

Of course you remember that day.

You found her, a week later.
A note was kept next to her body, weighed down by a rock. You kept that note, for 8 years. You read it over and over again. Your situation was similar to hers now. Those pink walls and rocking horses feel like a far away dream.

I'll sleep in that river too, and take her place; on the little tv in another 7 year old's home.
