" As the Seasons Pass. "
A short story of a lost friend...

Today the sun shone quite delicately atop each blade of grass and every petal of the new spring flowers. Currently the small pyromaniac all knew and some feared to be Pyro sat atop the large hill just shy from both the Red and the Blu base. Pyro once sat up here with joy and muffled laughter, making flower crowns for the enemy he had grown to love. Today marked three years of his absence, a respawn chip failure. Something that should've been so hard to screw up, and yet it did. Pyro laid against the green grass eyes closed and his mind could only wonder back to the memories of that day.
Bullets flew across the battlefield, sentries beeped with their pointed lasers looking for someone to aim for and those rascal spies ran around looking for some vertebrae to puncture. Blu Engineer sat in his small nest with his dispencer and sentry, not to far away along with his exit teleport to save his teammates the gruelling task of walking. With his shotgun equipped and a spy sniffing nose, he constantly was on the look out for the Red snake. Down below, back on the hard ground stood Red Pyro. A secret friend of the Engineers, despite his chasing and burning of Engies colleagues. Pyro, had his trusty back burner equipped as he mowed down the enemy team with the gruelling and painful flame, screams dispersed and rockets blew up in the background from Soldiers having their own American style 1 v 1. Pyro had snuck off to grab ammo and to talk to his friend, this was a very common acourance, for the both of them had seen what it had done to Demo and Soldiers relationship. The two best pals now at each others throat with every step and eyeless battle the two participated in.
Pyro snuck up the stairs and tackle hugged Engineer, making sure to stay out of sentry distance. The texan himself let out a hearty laugh as he hugged the pyromaniac back, "What in Sam hill are you doing over here?" Engine partially joked, obviously happy to see the Red. "Mmmph mm m phmmm", The pyromaniac mumbled through his thick mask. Engineer had become well damn a master at deciphering the gibberish that Pyro was constant to speak. Engineer chuckled, placing his hand onto the mumbler and spoke gently " I think you oughta skiddaddle before one of them Reds or heck, even Blu's come on over." Pyro nodded his head agreeingly, turning around to walk away but not before waving his goodbyes to the Texan. Had Pyro known at the time that would've been one of his last nice encounters with the man he would've cherished it a hole hell lot more, but Pyro had been naive and not anticipated what was to come next.
Engie chuckled as his sentry shot down several members of the enemy team, he heard a snake declaok behind him. It was to late, the rat bastard had already sapped his toys. Engie pulled his shot gun out, he found himself getting a bullet in his knee, "Gah!" He called out. His legs giving out as he fell to the ground, he tried to get back up as fast as he could, he was only matched by a fact shoe one his back and the cocking of a gun. "Bang!" Pyro had heard the shot amongst many others, this had caught his attention. Something told him something was off about it. Pyro turned his head up towards Engies nesting spot...
Pyro ran up to the spot only to see his Spy atop his friends body, it took all of his courage to not bash the French bastards brains in. Spy chuckled, "Beat 'ou to it" Spy spoke, he only assumed Pyro was up there to kill the enemies texan. Oh, how far from wrong he could've been... Pyro sighed looking at his friends body lifeless on the ground, of course it would only be a matter of time until he respawned.
The match had finished and the Blu Engineer had still not respawned, Pyro watched of his team ran around and his medic tried to directly revive him. Something was wrong, Pyro knew that much. Though it took only a few minutes to connect dots and realize that Engie wasn't coming back like he had all those times. Pyro counted the weeks where he laid in bed, no longer outside plucking small delicate flowers of various colours. How he no longer got to see the smile, or those adorable baby blue eyes that Engie seemed to hide beneath his goggles. When snowfall came, Pyro only laid in the near foot deep powder. No snowangles or snowmen, no snowball fights in meticulously crafted snowforts, nothing. Pyro's old cheery form, with what was definitely the highest energy, now gone. Pyro spent the first two years of the Blu Engies passing mossieing around. Or course, this was the third year, Pyro's Engie sized whole within his heart began to heal. Though nothing ever felt the same and he was constantly reminded of the man's passing and all the fun they had when they would sneak off, Pyro still held the regret of not spending one last spring with his friend.
Back to what can only be said as present day, Pyro was alone on this beautiful spring day. The flowers around him begged to be plucked and made into a flower crown, Pyro didn't wish to make a flower crown, not now or ever again. They could only remind him of the loss of his dearest friend...
Wind blew across the hill, Pyro could hear someone walking up. Pyro sat up only to see his teams Scout, Pyro didn't wave, he didn't "mmph" him a hello, he just sat and watched Scout. "Ey bud", Scout started off, sitting down next to the pyromaniac. " Ya seemed a bit lonely, thought I'd join you up here", Scout spoke. Pyro wasn't used to Scout being so buddy buddy with him, though it had been a while since the two talked face to face. About sat there looking at the flowers around, Pyro didn't say anything to the baseball loving boy. Scout looked off to the side, he sighed lightly standing up. "I'm here if ya ever need to talk, okay?" Scout spoke, looking down at the masked man. Pyro didn't say anything back, he only looked away as Scout began to walk off. Though day after day of the Spring, Pyro found himself sitting next to the Bostonian and listening to small rambles. The two talked more and more, they began to hang out after and during battle. Though Pyro was always more distant, Scout never minded all to much. As season passed from Spring to Summer and Summer to Fall, Pyro found that his heart slowly began to repair itself with the help of a new friend...

FanficI've become bored reading other people's one shots and I've been in this fandom for a while, haven't really felt any distance from it. So, I'm deciding to make this. I hope it'll help me improve my writing skills, because it sucks balls.
