Part I

My best friend knew exactly what was going on. She was the one who caught my boyfriend of three long, wonderful years cheating on me. Of course he was…all the fucking signs had been there, guess I chose to ignore them. “You have to come to this party! You need to let loose, have some fun, adventure,” she tried to persuade me. “And I know you think my cousin Jack is hot…,” she singsonged. My weak spot. I couldn’t believe she still held that over me. Jack Gilinsky was the first boy I ever kissed. We both had little crushes on each other, and I squealed when the bottle stopped and was facing him. He was so sweet and honest. “I’ve never kissed anyone before,” he blushed. “Me, neither,” I looked down. Before I knew it, he lifted my chin and pressed his soft lips to mine.

I’ve been dreaming of those lips ever since. But with Jack living so far away, that never became a reality. “Cassie!” I call at my friend. “He lives an hour away, what does that have to do with anything?” I furrow my brows. “I’m driving us out to his house that he and his friends rent out for school,” she shrugged. “We’ll be staying the weekend. Come on, Y/N! You’re not going to make me go alone are you?” She begs of me. After careful consideration, I finally give in and nod my head. “Fine. Only because I love you that much,” I roll my eyes. We were all the same age, all in our second years at university. When Cassie’s and my parents surprised us with our own apartment, we couldn’t have been any more excited. It came with a lot of responsibilities, but we’d be dealing with it all together. After hopping off of my bed, I rummaged through my closet. “Well, what the fuck do I wear?” I asked wide eyed. “I haven’t seen Jack in years, I gotta look hot,” I wink at my best friend.

"Wear your teal bodycon dress! The one with the open back?" She suggests. "It looks soooo good against your tan skin," she smiles. "Don’t you think that’s a little bright for a party?" I wonder, pulling it out of my closet. "That’s the point, it throws attention at you," she laughs. Rolling my eyes, I decide that I did like the dress, and the way it looked on me. "We’re leaving in like, an hour, by the way. Which’ll leave us with about two hours to get ready once we get there," she informs me. "Jack won’t be there until later. He has a night class," she pouts. "But we can hang out with the rest of the guys, they’re pretty chill," she smiles, skipping to her room. After throwing everything I needed into a bag that would fit enough things to last me a weekend, I drag it into our living room. "I’m almost ready!" I call out to Cassie, before making my way back to my room and changing from my pyjamas into a pair of black leggings and an oversized, knitted sweater.

We were soon on our way, and after stopping at a drive-thru restaurant and fuelling ourselves, the rest of the drive seemed to go by faster. “Are you excited to see him?” Cassie asks me, a smirk playing against her lips. “I mean… As excited as one could be to see their childhood crush,” I erupt into a fit of giggles. Once we arrived at the massive house that Jack was living in, I looked over at Cassie. “How many fucking people live here?!” I asked, shocked at the size. “Six guys,” she nodded. “It’s really nice on the inside, too. They do a pretty good job of keeping it clean,” she smiles. Once we’re inside, a big, muscular guy named Nat picked up our bags and lugged them up to one of their spare rooms, the one Cassie and I would be sharing. It even had its own bathroom! Luckily for Cassie, when she showered her hair dried pin straight. So as the steam built up in the bathroom, I had to escape it and use the mirror in the bedroom. After curling my already curly hair, I smile. I had never curled it so well before. Once Cassie came out of the bathroom, she ran her fingers through my curls. “It looks so good!” She chirps excitedly. After the bathroom lost most of its humidity, I made my way back into it to do my makeup.

I kept my makeup mostly natural, sporting a peachy pink lip that fit perfectly with my dress. “I refuse to go downstairs sober,” Cassie laughs, handing me a shot glass filled to the brim with tequila. After we cheers and down the liquor, we hear a knock at the door. “Y’all better not be drinking without us!” Nat called. “We’ll be down in a minute!” We both shout simultaneously. Once Cassie had her black dress on, I whistled. “That looks incredible,” I tell her honestly. Black looked so great against her fair skin, I loved it. Slipping into my own dress, I stepped my feet into a air of grey, suede sandal wedges. “Jack’s going to stop dead in his tracks. Did I mention he doesn’t know you’re here?” Cassie says quietly before exiting the room. “PARDON?” I shout, grabbing the tequila and running after her. “Cass, what?” I asked. “It’s his surprise, duh,” she said like it was obvious. After removing all the negative thoughts about him not wanting to see me from my head, we joined all the boys in the kitchen. “You girls clean up nicely,” Nat says, pulling us close to him.
