Chapter 1

I grew up learning that life is an adventure.

An adventure with many unexpected ups and downs, highs and lows.

But I never thought my life would take such an unexpected turn because of that one phone call.

Half an hour ago

I was surrounded by my friends but I felt a little lonely. They were all using their phones, exercising their thumbs away. I never really understood what they did on it that required them to use it all day long. Don't get me wrong, I love them but sometimes I just wanted to run them over with a truck when they used their phones constantly. I let out a sigh and started eating before someone could argue about not taking a picture of the food before. I was just about to take a bite when someone’s phone started ringing. They all looked up at me and that’s when I realized that it was my phone which was ringing. I fished around in the depths of my bag for my phone as everyone went back to texting. Finally, after finding my phone, I looked to see that it was an unknown number.

Huh. That's unusual because I don’t really give out my number to a lot of people, I thought.

Confused, I pick up the call and answer.

“Hello. Is this Josephine Langford ?”, said the other person.

“Yes, this is she” , I replied as I tried to figure out who the other person on the line was.

“Hi, this is Anna Todd, the producer of After Movie. You auditioned for this movie right ?”, she said.

I frowned before I replied, “Yes, I did audition for the role of Molly Samuels but I was told that the role was already given to someone else.”

“Well, we actually were calling you to ask if you would be willing to take the role of Tessa Young, the main lead, instead. Julia Goldani Telles, the actor who was originally supposed to be Tessa young unexpectedly had to back out because of scheduling problems and while we reviewing the other actors, we saw that you fit this role perfectly”, Anna said.

I was speechless. I had almost given up all hopes of getting any role in that film but now I was being asked to play the lead?

“Um, are you sure you are talking to the right person ?”, I asked.

“This is Josephine Langford, right? Don’t worry. You can take your time in letting us know whether you want the role or not”, Anna said while I was hyperventilating on the other side.

“Uh thank you for the offer. Ill um let call you back soon”, I said, trying hard not to stutter.

“Have a great day”, she said, before cutting the call.

The main lead? It wasn’t the role I auditioned for and definitely not the kind of role I've ever done before. It was a good opportunity but for some reason I was hesitant. I feel honored to play the lead but there was a part of me that was scared. I mean After is a sensational series of books with a big fan base. What if I'm not fit for the role?

Shaking my head to clear all the thoughts, I went back to eating, trying to ignore everything and everybody around me.
