Cold weather on a morning in November, the leaves are already dead and covered by the small amount of snow the fall brings to the island. The girl, as she was walking in between the large and lifeless trees in lover's lane, was stunned by all the beauty even the cold seasons could bring to nature. As she was wandering deeply caught in her imagination, she didn't notice she wasn't alone. The not so unknown fox, which she had been accompanied by at the book club hut, has been following every step of the young woman. But she, as everybody knew her, was too occupied to pay attention. Too distracted by the snowflakes tickling her pale skin as they were landing on her nose tip.

'Oh, what a peaceful day!' thought the auburn haired and continued back in the direction of Green Gables.

'Much better than yesterday' she added, not being quite honest with herself.
As she was listening to the voice of mother nature, she finally noticed the little steps behind her. She turned around furiously:

"This is not fun-", she yelled it out, being at the top of her lungs and grasping
for air.
She stopped as she noticed that nobody was there to tease her and the little creature was hissing at her.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you..." she said whispering, kneeling down to be similar to the height of the fox.

She had once read that wild animals were scared by the height of humans, so to prevent them to panic you shall kneel down and make yourself small. The four legged snapped with their tail and then made their extraordinary dress of fur disappear in the depths of the forest.

"I sure was aware of your ability to make friends with everyone, but a fox...that's new?" sounded a very familiar voice behind her.

That voice which kept getting her on a ride of emotions, from chills reaching into her body and even into her bones - to raging anger of being embarrassed in front of everyone again.

"Gilbert, what are you doing here?" she asked as she turned around and tried to swallow her nervosity.

She wasn't quite sure about what to feel just right now, especially after the dance practice this week, he had the same smile on his face as in school.

"I was just taking a walk...and you?", he seemed interested in what she was doing out here all alone.

"I was just heading home, see you!" she abruptly said, as the weird feeling in her stomach appeared another time and made her unable to speak properly.

She knew too well how much she's embarrassed herself the other day when she was trying to see the so said 'romance in his eyes' of which Ruby has spoken. He had seemed so open about the take notice board until Anne had mentioned the girl with the golden locks. Deeply inside she had figured that Gilbert thought that Anne had spoken about their relationship, but she couldn't quite believe that it was true, so she forgot about it. But surely, she didn't forget the joyful jump her heart did when he had asked "to their future together?". It was the same feeling as when Gilbert pulled her into his line to be able to dance with her, and when only them remained standing, looking at each other – with romance in their eyes. Probably more like written all over them.

"Anne! Wait!", he said and put his hand on her shoulder as she was turning around to go back.

She shrugged together as her thoughts got interrupted and as she turned around, she seemed upset. But as soon as her deep ocean eyes locked with his, she couldn't possibly dare to escape his look. Her anger rinsed off her face and replaced itself with a genuinely happy smile and a soft rose colour on her cheeks. Everything was like it always was. But now, as they lost themselves in each other's eyes, nothing mattered anymore. The whole world was revolving around them.
The attention of the trees, the flowers...even the yet so small pieces of grass which are still alive. This moment was all theirs, and nobody could take it away from them. The snowflakes began to decorate the top of their heads as Gilbert slowly lifted up his hand to touch her cheek gently.
She leaned into his touch, as he slid his hand a bit further down to one of her auburn coloured braids and tenderly tugged on it.

"Carrots...", he whispered with an honest smile on his face, in paralysis of her breath-taking appearance.

He has never lost himself in the girl's eyes with that intensity, but usually he couldn't let himself drive off into that world she led him into by simply looking at her. She, not as he expected, kept looking at him, no anger, only love in the sparkles of her eyes. He has never seen the adoration of her so clearly before, has she ever looked at him that way? As he recall'd he could only remember her looking at him annoyed, normal, or also full of joy whilst talking about something she is interested in.
But maybe...she looked at him that way in secret?

He only could hope for it to be that way, as he couldn't know if that really is so.
He, quite the opposite, has probably spilled his heart out with looking at her since the day they first met. He couldn't really keep his eyes and attention off her. But why even should he?
The whole world was to know that his heart belongs to the girl with temper as fiery as her hair, and only her. He has always thought he'd be over her, he even found someone who would probably be willing to be with him. But after Bash's advice about the difference of love and attraction, he came to the conclusion that Winifred Rose wasn't exactly the type of girl he could imagine a future with. He figured they could still remain friends, as they came along pretty well. Also, he assumed Anne and Winifred had proven to have a few similar personality traits, and the redhead would probably be more than overly excited to meet someone new to befriend.

"How dare you call me like that Blythe!" she quietly said, softly, whilst grabbing his collar and pulling him even closer.

The sound of his name said by her send him shivers down his back. They could feel the warm breath of each other and Gilbert was nervously looking from her eyes to her lips and back.
Anne couldn't stand looking at him like that any longer and decided to quickly overcome the distance which has probably only been the thickness of a book. He twitched a little from the warmth of her lips colliding with the freezing of his. Maybe it was only the tension which had made this moment so much more exciting or the difference of their temperatures.
She felt the tickling of the cold taking over her face as he had put his hands on her cheeks keeping her as close as he could. As they parted their lips from each other they stared deeply into each others eyes. The silence kept on and on until Anne got impatient and her cheeks felt like they could burn off any second.

"If you don't say anything, how can I say anything?" she asked, not knowing how to explain her own action and in need of a respond of her counterpart.

"Maybe this will " he said, a cheeky smile on his face as he kiss'd her another time.

"Does that mean...you felt the same things as I did? During the dance? I mean...when our hands touched and you looked at me like I was..." she started and her eyes wetened as she realised how lucky she was.

"The sizzling in the air as I held your hand, the blood rushing in my veins as our eyes locked? As I looked at the most beautiful girl in the whole world? Yes - Oh yes I felt the same" he said, expressing all the love with the look of his on her.

"I think I couldn't have beared the pain if you didn't felt it as I did, I could see the romance in your eyes, just as Ruby said" Anne drifted away and Gilbert laughed shyly.

"Why did Ruby say I have romance in my eyes though?" he asked and raised his brow, just as he always did.

"Well...do you remember when I told you about the take notice board? I did it for Ruby, so that you'd make a move on her...but apparently you didnt have an eye on her...instead it was me...and you were really talking about oh GOD - OUR FUTURE TOGETHER" she blurted out and hid her face in her hands.

Her head felt like it was on fire, right there in that moment she had hoped he was talking about them. Why did she ignore his dissappointed look and his sudden change of mind when she mentioned Ruby? He was in despair of her apparent disinterest in him. She even kind of tried getting him together with someone else.

"Now that I know what that was all about - you can be sure that I'm going to notice you, carrots"
