This is a foxcraft fanfiction. It has spoilers for foxcraft, The Mage. I don't own any, Inball Iserles does.
P.S.
(This is terrible and I hate it, but I can't find any Siffrin x Isla fanfics anywhere, so I had to make my own. And, ya know, I read that part out of the Mage where he said he looked at the river bank every single day until she came home, and I couldn't get it out of my head. Sorry if you hate it. I do too😊)
Also I'm sorry for not being active(not that anyone cares), there's been things going on in my life and I didn't have the time or motivation to write.
Sorry

He went to the river today, of course. He had every single day since he led the Taken from her.
He knew the Mage's Narrel was there. He knew the the Mage himself was there. He wasn't stupid. He knew she was probably dead, or pleached.
He didn't even know which was worse. Especially when all she wanted to do was to be with her brother. The bright red fox sighed as he thought about her.
Her beautiful ginger coat, her light amber eyes, how her tail was somehow fluffy and thin, how stubborn she was. How she walked away from him with hurt and betrayal in her eyes.
How he lied to her.
How he allowed her to think her family was still alive.
How he left her after she was caught by the snatchers.
He never meant to hurt her.
Because that was before.
Before he knew her.
Before he cared about her.
Before he loved her.
And now she was probably dead.
Jana could see the change in him. Anyone could. He still listened to whatever she told him to do, he just seemed dull.
Lifeless. And he was without her.
He couldn't even see color.
It was all dull.
Just like him.
Gray.
Like where Isla grow up.
Because everything led the long tailed red male to think about her.
Knowing she was dead.
Knowing he would never see her again.
Knowing it was his fault.
Knowing that he left her to face the snowlands alone.
Knowing he broke his promise to to go with her.
Knowing it broke his heart.
But he still went.
Every single day.
Because he would rather search every single inch of the river bank than think she was dead.
But he knew she was.
All he could do was hope.
And he did.
And one day it payed off.
He was going to search the river bank, as usual, when he saw the shape of what appeared to be a fox. He quickly went to investigate, as he hadn't seen any foxes here at all in all the times he went before. And even though he knew he wasn't Isla, his heart sped up, hoping and pray that somehow, someway, it would be Isla. Going closer to the figures, he saw two things that blew his mind.
One, Metis, the Black Fox, and two, Isla.
As the sent on her coat drafted towards him, he realized something. Isla was grown now. She wasn't a foxling anymore, she was a full grown fox.
She still had a shorter muzzle, her brush was still thin, and her legs were still, so, so short.
Compared to his at least.
But still!
Isla was here,alive, full grown!
He couldn't believe it.
He ran towards her, panting "Isla!" when he got there. And he could finally see in color again. He saw the bright ginger on her back, her black paws, her white tail tip, but most of all, he saw her eyes. Her beautiful amber eyes. Staring at him with happiness in them. Not hatred for everything he did to her. And he was happy.
Even though he knew it couldn't stay that way for long, even though he knew he should be with Jana, even though he knew he should be worrying about the Mage, even though he knew they were both probably going to be dead by tonight, he would just relish the way their brushes twined together.
He would enjoy it while it lasted. Because he knew it wouldn't last long. It couldn't.
The Mage was there.
There was more at stake than one fox in particular.
There were whole sulks to consider.
But to him, that one fox was his world.
She had captured his thoughts since he first was sent to retrieve her brother. She had captured his heart soon after. She still had his heart.
So he was content to just stay like that forever.
With their brushes intertwined.
It was as if they were meant to be together forever.
(Because, let's be honest, they were)
